Yes, it's time once again for the annual posting of the Moriarty Signoff
Quote List, a list of quotes (with attributions) from novels, TV, film,
comix, the generally glib, and the Net itself.  The only common criteria
between the quotes in this list is that each tickles my fancy in one way or
another; they have appeared on the signoffs of my articles and e-mail notes
since I began frequenting the Net, and other palaces of ill repute.  I post
the list partially due to requests (which are getting rather frequent
again), but mostly due to healthy egotism on my part.  Rec.games.trivia gets
picked as the site, since I figure these quotes can be used as fodder for a
Quotables trivia test.
 
Like last year, I've divided the list into two sections this time: Quotes
added since last year's posting in r.g.trivia (May of 1992); and a
corrected, updated posting of the quotes posted last year.  I post the
latter out of a sense of psychotic accuracy, and also because, otherwise, I
get 34,510 requests to repost it from newbies.

SO, WHAT'S NEW?:
 
Lots.  For some reason or other ("More fibre in the diet, honey!"), the file
has had its most explosive growth in four years, increasing in size by 20%
(and it's in the multi-megabyte size now).  I don't think I've gotten less
demanding in my quotes; I do think I've gritted my teeth and entered ones I
like more than I usually do.  Also, I have more outlets for good quotes from
the net this year, so that could be part of it.
 
New quotes from sources as diverse as THE SIMPSONS, Harry Truman, NORTHERN
EXPOSURE, Dave Sim, Mystery Science Theater 3000, W.H. Auden, Dan Quayle,
David Letterman, and (of course) Dave Barry.  And the Usual Gang of Idiots
(i.e., Usenet).

CORRECTIONS:
 
I *welcome* spelling corrections, punctuation corrections, etc.
-- please toss them at me.  As to corrections to the quotes, or the
attributions, I also welcome these -- *if* you're sure it's wrong, i.e.,
you've double-checked and I'm wrong.  (God knows I often am.)  A hunch can
also be helpful, but please mention that it's a hunch.
 
Reply to this address for corrections -- I do want them.  That's my picture
next to "anal retentive" in the dictionary.
