These are a bit on the open-ended side at present. Seeing how I started this as a convenient way to organize information about oceanography and related areas and the references thereof, there really wasn't an overall master plan that defined when or even if this would ever be finished. I'm pondering this issue as of late but haven't yet arrived at anything concrete.
This, of course, doesn't mean that various ideas for extensions or modifications don't pop up every so often. The most appealing to me right now is some sort of method for supplying maps of all the various seas, currents, water masses, etc. via an interactive data base. Producing the coastlines of the landmasses is an easy enough task using the marvelous database produced by those wonderful GMT developers, but other facets are a bit trickier.
The geographic names will probably have to exist in a separate data base which will be queried as to which place names are located within a chosen lat/lon box. These names will be supplied and added to graphs as is required by both location and scale, i.e. it probably wouldn't be a very good idea to attempt to label the various Andaman Islands on a graph of the entire planet.
The bathymetry is another tricky bit. I'm not terribly sure what databases are available for this and am doing some preliminary scouting about lately. Any suggestions here would be appreciated. One good possibility I've just found is the Global Relief CD-ROM produced by the folks at NOAA. Another is the Bathymetry Related Sites of the Web page.
As to other ideas, I'll add them as I solidy the initial concepts that appear fairly often. Any and all suggestions would be most appreciated here as well.
