Paleocontinental reconstructions

This is an archive of various paleographic configurations of the continents over the last 500 million years. The digitized maps were garnered from various sources, mainly the Paleomap Project headed by Christopher Scotese in the Dept. of Geology at the University of Texas at Arlington. The contents will be indicated by the paleodate in millions of years before present followed by the size of the digitized map. This list will be broken into separate eras based on the original sources.

Paleomap project files

These are Paleomap project raw files. These files are all 71x35 (when you remove the outside border) and range in latitude for 85 deg. N to 85 deg. S and in longitude from 175 deg. W to 175 deg. E. The resolution is 5 deg. in both directions. The files are coded such that 1 = ocean points, 2 = the limit of the continental margin, 3 = the limit of land at sea level, and 8 = the 1 km topography contour.
