  • Neural Net FAQ in HTML. A hypertext version of the FAQ for comp.ai.neural-nets is available at this link.

• Neural net simulation software. This list was pinched from the PNL Neural Net pages of the folks at Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratories (PNL), although I've somewhat modified and expanded the presentation. There is also a free software section in the neural net FAQ which goes into a bit more detail on some of the listed packages.

  The CMU Artificial Intelligence Repository contains some, if not all, of the systems listed below. Here is a list of systems at CMU to check availability and a link to the systems directory where they reside.

  • FTP Archive for Atree Simulator at University of Alberta, Canada. The README file offers some details. Here is a link to the Atree section in the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Stuttgart Neural Network Simulator (SNNS) at Stuttgart, Germany. There is a README file for the simulator itself as well as one for the associated NESSUS NN description language package and the SNNS2C package that converts NN descriptions from SNNS format to C code. Here is a link to the SNNS section in the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Rochester Connectionist Simulator (RCS) at the University of Rochester, N.Y. There's a README file but it isn't terribly informative as to the details of the package. A few more details and an alternative site can be found at the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for DartNet Simulator for Mac (dartnet.sit.hqx") at Univ. of Dartmouth. This is a Mac-based NN simulator for backpropagation. This is also available at the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Mactivation Simulator for Mac (Mactivation-3.3.sea.hqx) at the University of Colorado.

  • FTP Archive for PlaNet (SunNet) at the University of Colorado. An alternative site for this is the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Multi-Module Neural Computing Environment (MUME) at Sydney Univ. in Australia. Another site for this is the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Backprop-1.4 Simulator for DOS at the Univ. of Kassel, Germany.

  • FTP Archive for Xerion Simulator at the University of Toronto. The ubiquitous README file offers some details. An alternative site for this is the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for SOM and LVQ code at the Technical Univ. of Helsinki. There are informative README files for both the LVQ package and the SOM package.

  • FTP Archive for NeurDS Simulator (NeurDS031.tar.Z) at DEC.

  • FTP Archive for Pygmalion and Genesis Simulators at Informatique et de Mathématiques Appliquées de Grenoble - IMAG (France). The Genesis simulator can be found at CalTech and here is the man page for the Pygmalion package.

  • FTP Archive for PlaNet Simulator (PlaNet5.7.tar.Z) at Chukyo University (Japan).

  • FTP Archive for BIOSIM (BIOlogical neural network SIMulator) at the University of Kaiserslautern (Germany). The ever-popular README file provides some details.

  • FTP Archive for Hyperplane Animator at Rutgers University (USA). The README file offers some specifics and the CMU repository an alternate site.

  • Aspirin/MIGRAINES Simulator at University of California at Los Angeles - UCLA (USA). There is a fairly informative README file for this package.

  • FTP Archive for Flight Manuever Simulator (simulator.tar.Z) at University of California at Los Angeles - UCLA (USA).

  • FTP Archive for WinNN Simulator for MS-Windows at the Washington University at Saint Louis (USA). It won't be surprising if you can't access this document since this is one of the busiest sites on the net and tricky to access even with its user limit of 225. If that's busy then try the CMU repository.

  • FTP Archive for Matrix Backpropagation at the University of Genoa (Italy). The obligatory README file has a list of what's what in the directory.

  • FTP Archive of The Brain Neural Network Simulator for the PC (brain12.zip) at Technion (Israel).
