Herein are links to sites pertaining chiefly to old maps, although
many of them are concerned with and have links to a broader range
of map types, i.e. geological maps, bathymetric maps, etc.
- A collection of over 700 ancient, medieval and renaissance
maps along with extensive documention. Very nice.
- A set of 33 map images and links to related sites.
- A British Library exhibition about the art of the mapmaker and
its interaction with evolving concepts as to the shape and extent
of the Earth and the heavens. Several images.
- Lots of information and online images broken down into categories
such as topographic maps. nautical charts, thematic maps,
facsimile maps, etc.
- A collection of rare maps spanning from the 16th through the
early 20th century. Quite a few have been scanned and can be
viewed online.
- An interesting site with quite a few online maps as well as
glossaries and guides about maps and cartography.
- The Rhyhiner map collection contains more than 15,000 maps and
charts from the 16th to 18th centuries. Online versions of several
of their maps are available and apparently there are plans to
offer many more.
- Information about the map room as well as about a dozen
online images of old maps.
- A project to document the history of cartography. This site
exists mainly to advertise the hardcopy books produced by the
project, but it also contains about a half dozen online
map reproductions.
- Part of the home pages of
George M. Welling,
an interesting chap.
- The map portion of the larger
GHETA
