Design for use with a clear single jewel case. --------------------------------------------------------- The Story Like any story passed on with some music this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Here what was told to me and this is what I know. n intern at WMMR in the 80's recorded this show to an analog source. Being such a tremendous recording this individual longed to re-record the master reel straight to a digital source as they became increasingly popular in the early 90's. At this point the intern had moved on and no longer had this type of access. However, he remembered periodically that the studio or the station allowed access to the 'records room' for research activity. Posing as a university affiliate doing research on 70's radio advertising this individual gained access to the master reels with a portable Sony DAT deck. The room was laid out with shelves with tables on the far end with cassette decks, reel to reel and 'cart' type recorders. Unplugging the cart recorder and connecting the DAT deck history was then digitized. If you look at the timeline it was more than likely recorded with a Sony TCD D3. This early DAT deck was actually graced with a very nice A to D chip. I believe the same chip found in the Panasonic SV3700. Therefore a very nice digital transcript was made that day. At this time I was working at a mail order facility selling DAT tapes. Which at the time were very expensive, $12 or more per tape. The individual with this Bonnie recording told us the story above. Is it true? Who knows but he use to buy DAT tapes from us regularly. He made us a cassette of this famous recording and we bugged him to make us a DAT copy for months. He did not have the means to do DAT to DAT. On a visit to the 'store' in Stamford in 1992 we finally were able to make 1 DAT clone. I subsequently cloned that DAT. Most likely the clone was made between a Panasonic SV3700 and a Sony 59ES. Possibly between 2 SV3700. At the 'shop' we had so many DAT decks with many configurations. I have no doubt this is direct from the Pre-FM Reels and one listen and you will have no doubt either. Easily one of the finest recordings by any musician at any time.
Bonnie Raitt - Apollo, Manchester, Apr. 7, 2006
Notes:
Bonnie Raitt Manchester Apollo 7 April 2006 First night of her UK tour. Bonnie is in lively form and talks about her new "kick ass" amp, Tom Jones singing Love Letter and I can't make you love me, the League of Gentlemen and more. Sound isn't bad at all and I havn't touched the recording. At the start, there was a steward stood right next to me so I had to be discreet with mic positioning. At the end of the first song we moved along the empty seats in the row, so there is some noises with this repositiong. Sorry about that, but it doesn 't last long. Set list is a nice balance between the old and the new IMHO and the s how just flew by. There is a quiet transition between Tracks 10 and 11, so tracks 1 - 10 on disk one and the rest on disk two works nicely. Lineage Sony TCD7 -> Creative live Drive -> PC -> CD Wave -> Flac. SBE's checked and md5 lo g created with Traders Little Helper. Enjoy it, don't ebay it, yadda yadda.

Otis Redding - Soupcon of Soul, 1967
Notes:
Big 'Fro historical notes continued... As I said earlier: the "perfect" Otis release was something I really wanted to do. We had quite a few different tapes to work from. After figuring out what might have been released previously and what worked best for this release I started work on those tapes in particular. One of the things I wanted to do was make the Stockholm material sing sassy. I always hated the way the Swingin' Pig version sounded flat and lifeless - especially considering that there was obviously a GREAT Otis show there. The tracks at the beginning of the disc (which Big P came up with) did not require allthat much work so I got those out of the way and concentrated on the rest. After about 4 weeks and 100 hours of work I was very very pleased with the results and - this is the only time I ever did this - I sent a copy of the completed master to Big P to get his opinion. Then I played the master for some soul fanatic aquaintances as well to get their opinions. Everybody felt that this was something that was monumental. I sent a bunch of artwork to Tracey and told her she had free reign and should design a few covers and I'd pick the one I liked best. She sent me 4 variations of thecover and I combined 2 of them and sent it to the Japanese. They were stunned by the disc. In my opinion this is the best Otis release - official or unofficial - you can get. If anybody out there that were unfamiliar with him needed to hear just one cd by him I would choose this one. Why Atlantic cannot issue something on par with this is beyond me. Surely they would have 100 times the material (compared to the small handful of stuff I had access to) to choose from in their vaults so that they could easily issue an Otis cd of unreleased material that would rival this one - why haven't they? --durian1 Otis Redding "A Soupçon of Soul" Various Sources 1967 Source:"A Soupçon of Soul" Big 'Fro Bootleg (BF-007) Lineage:SBD>CD(Original Silver)>EAC(secure mode/offset correct)>WAV>FLAC(A) 01. Satisfaction 20. Try A Little Tenderness This was another one I upped to STG back in November of 2003 and it just blew up like the bomb it was and is. I think it ran for over a year, topping 2,000 downloads, and probably remained on the tracker until the site eventually died, taking the torrent with it. In this soul fanatic's opinion, Durian and Big P completely succeeded in creating the "ultimate live Otis release", I can't count how many times I've played it. Otis was truly an electrifying performer with tremendous stage presence and he was/is arguably the greatest male vocalist of all time in the soul/r&b genre. I messed around with a graphics program this morning and fixed a couple of minor errors with the back cover artwork file - the spine read "Siul", it now reads "Soul".Track 8 read "Satisfaction", but it's actually "Respect" so I fixed that too. Anyone who wants the fixed cover art only should direct their bt client to dl the file named "Otis Redding Soupcon of Soul-bc". This torrent also includes a scan of the disc label that's likely not previously circulated for anybody who wants it - "Otis Redding Soupcon of Soul-disc" is that file name. Also, before anyone asks, the title is not a typo. Soupçon (pronounced sup'son') is a french word meaning "a little bit" or "small amount". I think it's ok within the text info, but I've labeled the flac files, folder and torrent file "Soupcon" (not"Soupçon") since odd characters or unrecognized symbols can wreak havoc with some torrent makers, trackers and bit torrent clients, causing unexpected error messages. Finally, thanks again to durian1 and Big P for making this monumental collection available to us all. The standard ethical appeals apply to all offers - 1) Continue seeding after DL 2) Trade/Share freely 3) Never for sale 4) No lossy distribution 5) Enjoy thoroughly! --bcc32065

Metal Comments: This is a really clear recording of a highy under-appreciated American guitar instru mentalist - Preston Reed combines the fingerpicking style of Doc Watson with the per cussive 'slap' style of Michael Hedges to create something truly amazing...no matter which style he's playing, you'll be asking yourself, "how did he do that?" Preston introduces nearly every song, and I've tracked the intros so that they follo w the previous song...most of the intros are less than a minute in length, the excep tion being Franzl's Story, a 4-minute background on the virtuoso player of that trul y American musical instrument (?), the saw! If you've never heard Preston play, then this show will provide a great introduction - if you are already a fan, then you're gonna love this! enjoy! - Zeb

Wow, where to begin ? This may get a bit lengthy so hang on :
This show was originally seeded either here or on STG (R.I.P.!).
With no disrespect to the unknown seeder, it didn't sound
very good at all. Kinda muddy, pretty crappy, mid to high generation
CD copy. A friend of mine met a person who was getting rid of various
concert tapes (low gens & masters) that he didn't want any more. My
friend traded for this show & got what he was told was the master tape.
After listening to the tape & comparing it to the aforementioned
download, he has no reason to question the claim that it is the master.
He graciously lent me the master tape and I have passed it on to you.
The master is a little hot & has some occasional mild distortion, as it
was recorded on an analog machine with no rec volume control (i.e. a factory
set rec volume level). I was at this show and the concert was VERY loud,
basically WAY too loud. This resulted in occasional high levels "into the red"
when played back on a good tape deck. However, running it through
the Aiwa CD recorder and keeping the recording levels at a reasonable
setting resulted in a (IMHO) fine-sounding recording with little distortion.
A word about various aspects of the recording : the Rev's vocals are
pretty strange sounding on certain songs on the 1st CD. He was
using 2 different mics on stage that night; a regular tube-shaped mic and a
1940s style square box mic that Sinatra et al. used quite a bit in the
"olden days". The regular mic was fine; the 1940s mic made the Rev sound
like a monster. Was the mic broken ? Was the weird-ass vocal treatment
intentional ? Only Horton Heat knows for sure. If you listen to the CDs on
headphones, the monster vocals are much clearer but still very bizarre.
The vocal effects are not the result of a bad recording.
As far as talkers go, the tape is not bad at all. The high music volume
drowns out virtually all talking. When the music stops and the Rev is
talking to the crowd, you'll hear some smart-ass drunk idiots offering
up their very hilarious comments but it's not enough to make you cry or
anything drastic. The place was PACKED that night and people had a hard
enough time breathing, let alone talking. There is a tape flip at the end
of track 12 ; only ~ 5 seconds of Nurture My Pig were lost. If you wish
to copy the setup of the tape, choose the first CD track option. If you
like more evenly timed CDs, choose the second CD track option.
I included no artwork and no song sample. I listened to quite a bit of
this on phones and it sounds better than the master tape & a LOT
better than the old download from a while back. Here's your chance to
upgrade your old download or to get a copy of the master recording of
this great show. Please don't encode this to mp3, buy it or sell it.
Please seed it as long as you can and share it freely. I don't know
how many RHH fans are on Dime but I hope that this is grabbed by many
people because it is a great show. Well, that's about it for the diatribe
so enjoy the show, have fun and don't freak out.....

The Reverend Horton Heat: Say amen, somebody
Stubb's - Austin, TX - SXSW - March 17, 2000
Austin-American Statsemen XL Extra 3/19/00
Written by Anna Giuliani
He's been around for a long, long time but still packs 'em in. Dallas psychobilly legend The Re
verend Horton Heat doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Heck, he doesn't even seem to age. C
lad in a two-piece red suit with sparkling silver flames and snappy bowtie, The Reverend strode
onto the Stubb's stage Friday night to Duane Eddy's "Rebel Rouser."
By 1 a.m., the Stubb's crowed was rowdy, drunk and riled up from the preceding Nashville Pussy
show (it must've been the fire and nudity). They were far more interested in celebrating St. Pa
trick's Day than watching the band. But The Reverend regaled them with a mix of classics ("Wigg
le Stick," "400 Bucks," ) and cuts from his new album "Spend A Night In The Box" (Time Bomb Rec
ordings). Horton Heat's set was tight, but too polished. The band's effortless playing left few
surprises; at times, it seemed they were simply going through the motions. Even so, it cannot
be denied that The Reverend's hot guitar picking and country-fried solos are worth seeing and h
earing at least once.

Hank III started with their more country tunes; after a couple of songs, I could see him messin

ence. The next song sounded fine, I really couldn<92>t tell the difference, but he had that ups

house, 50 dorky press photographers and his very surprised band, <93>I<92>m sorry- I will not b
e able to finish the show- I cannot play without distortion- I can<92>t drive the band<94>, and
walks offstage. The audience started to yell <93>this sucks<94>, chanting it twice before losi

Soudboard the cover says. Disc 2: As good as it gets I believe? Soudboard the cover says. (I leave that to all of you how has this show already on another boot to decide if t his is an upgrade) From a Japanes site (used http://babelfish.altavista.com/ for translation): Mayby it dosent make sense, mayby it does to some people. The latest DAC board makes the opposite channel the left and right to be good to previous departure normal, the sound which is conspicuous lightly raising the limits low, has increased thickness entirely. Also the sound quality being mild, it is finished in the impression which is easy to hear.

Rolling Stones - 1973 Soundboard Collection: Supplement to Brussels 1973
Notes:
THE ROLLING STONES 1973 SOUNDBOARD COLLECTION - SUPPLEMENT TO BRUSSELS 1973 This is a compilation of all 1973 soundboard recordings which do not come from the famous B russels 17-10-1973-1st show. This is thought as a supplement CD to "The Lost Brussels" (VGP-088). I think this is a much better compilation than the failed disc 2 of "Brussels Affair - Defi nitive Edition" (Rattlesnake)! 1. Brown Sugar (a) 2. Brown Sugar (b) 3. Star Star (b) 4. Angie (b) 5. Gimme Shelter (c) 6. Happy (c) 7. Dancing With Mr. D (c) 8. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) (c) 9. Street Fighting Man (c) 10. Midnight Rambler (c) 11. Gimme Shelter (d) 12. Happy (d) 13. Tumbling Dice (d) 14. Star Star (d) 15. All Down The Line (d) 16. I have moved "Midnight Rambler" from London to the end of the London tracks (though it shou ld be before Street Fighting Man) because of the worse sound quality, so it sounds more flu ent like this.
Rolling Stones - Necrophilia, LB

The Rolling Stones Necrophilia ABKCO 10572 [fake] Publisher: Vinyl Gang Product Reference: VGP 317 Date: 2002 Quality: Excellent Studio Total duration: 46:10 01 Out Of Time [Oldham Sessions Version] 02 Don't Lie To Me 03 Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby [Standing in The Shadow?] 04 Think 05 Hear It [Instrumental] 06 Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind 07 Aftermath [Instrumental] [aka - And Mr. Spector And Mr. Pitney Came To] 08 I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys 09 Andrew's Blues 10 Pay Your Dues [Alternate Vocal to Street Fighting Man] 11 Let The Good Times Roll 12 Heart Of Stone [Oldham Sessions Version] 13 Each & Every Day Of The Year 14 [Walkin' Thru The] Sleepy City 15 Try A Little Harder 16 Blue Turns To Grey [Alternate Version with Horns] 17 We're Wastin' Time Alternate versions from 1964 to 1967. Unreleased album planned as follow-up to Hot Rocks (1972). The project was cancelled due to disagreements between Andrew Oldham and Allen Klein about the eclectic track selection; which included controversial songs such as "Andrew's Blues" and "Pay Your Dues" (alternate version to "Street Fighting Man"). It was replaced with the more conservative double album "More Hot Rocks". Album was produced by Andrew Oldham. Digitally remastered 2002 from original vinyl source. A faithful reproduction of the prototype concept and recording. This record is the pre-curser to the "Black Box" concept that was revived in 1975, and would ultimately culminate into "Metamorphosis." A lot of thought was put into retrospective recordings by ABKCO in the early to mid-Seventies. Sound Quality - Excellent Studio Recordings. Some acetate surface noise heard at intros & outros. Upgraded clear stereo sound on many older outtakes that have surfaced over the years, such as Pay Your Dues.
Rolling Stones - Bright Lights, Big City, LB
Notes:
Rolling Stones - Bright Lights, Big City Dandelion (DL 099/100) This is a very good Document of the Brian Jones era. Also a history of how the worlds Greatest Rock Band ( they claim ) Started. ( I agree to a point )... A special thanks to Erring 72 & Citadel whom set me the set list. It makes shareing easier, when you get a alot of help. In my way of thinking this set should be in all Stones collections. most of these gigs were long before they became famous... Rolling Stones - Beat Beat Beat at the Beeb
Notes:
This is an excellent collection of early Rolling Stones performances which if not for networks lik e DIME might never have gotten heard on this side of the pond; remember, the BBC didn't regularly archive its live on-air performances until the late 1960's. When I went over these recordings after uncompressing them, I found a number of sonic bugs. Many t racks had loud clicks at the end. I cut these out whenever I found them. One track had rather seri ous 50-Hz hum, which I filtered out. Another track had a big silent gap at the end, followed by th e first 10 seconds of the following track. I fixed that. Lastly, all tracks had rather long silenc es at their beginnings, which I corrected. Many thanks to jimtronic, the original seeder, for giving us these crucial pieces of history. Notes:
The Rolling Stones Bedspring Symphony (A Box Lunch and Meat Whistle) Live in Concert Limited Edition from the original TAKAL 1941 Silver CD>WAV (EAC)>FLAC Quote from Hot Wacks The best Stones live recording, surpasses even the officially released live albums in quality Ok folks, you probably have this a hundred times but Im not sure that Ive ever seeded it. This comes directly from the silver CD and includes artwork. This is the best mixe d of the 1973 soundboard shows (yes, better even then the great Rattlesnake release Definitive Brussels). Oh yeah, and one of the worst introductions of the Stones ever, lol. Enjoy! Setlist: 01. Gimme Shelter 02. Tumbling Dice 03. Brown Sugar 04. Heartbreaker 05. Angie 06. Honky Tonk Woman 07. Midnight Rambler 08. All Down the Line 09. Street Fighting Man 10. Interview with Mick and Charlie (not listed on the artwork)
Rolling Stones, The Black Box (4 discs)
Notes:
THE BLACK BOX (4 CD box set)
Yellow Dog Records
This version is the millennium edition with bonus CD
Comes with a simple booklet that only lists song titles and recording dates.
Inlay photos on the CD's are great early shots of the band.
The first CD of the set takes a look at the early years of the band with a retrospective
of alternate takes and unreleased titles in excellent sound quality.
CD-1 (VTCD YD 046)
- Heart Of Stone: The unreleased mono 45 version
- Not Fade Away: An alternate take with a different harp track
- And Mr. Spector and Mr. Pitney Came Too: More or less the instrumental version of Andr
ews Blues. A.k.a. 1964 Blues Jam on some releases.
- Andrews Blues: Vocal by........Gene Pitney. He says thank you at 2:01 when Jagger ment
ions his name during his vocal piece of the song. Supposedly, rare acetates of this song
were made for members of the band with "Between The Buttons" like cartoons on the label
s drawn by Charlie Watts!
- Don't Lie To Me: The early 1964 studio ("Metamorphosis") version of the Chuck Berry so
ng. Also covered live by the band on the BBC in 1964, and in Ft. Worth, Texas, June 24,
1972.
- Hi Heel Sneakers: The following five tracks (excluding Look What You've Done) original
ly surfaced on the early seventies release "Bright Lights Big City" (RS 541) on Trade Ma
rk of Quality. There is an interesting story of how this first recording of rare acetate
s was made in the book "Bootleg: The Secret History Of The Other Recording Industry" aka
"The Great White Wonders" in the UK by Clinton Heylin, on page 87. These songs were rec
orded at Chess Studios, Chicago, June, 1964.
- Stewed and Keefed: This is the same "cleaned-up" (no acetate pops) version that first
appeared on "Mad Shadows" on Scorpio (SC-91022) and "Bright Lights Big City" Anniversary
Edition (TSP-CD-BLBC)
- Look What You've Done: Jagger introduces the title of the song, but other than that it
's similar to the released album take. A Muddy Waters song, recorded June, 1964 at Chica
go Chess Studios.
- Tell Me Baby, How Many Times: A "Big" Bill Broonzy number.
- Down In The Bottom: Exhumed for the 1995 European Tour. Written By Willie Dixon and al
so performed by early Stones inspiration Howlin' Wolf.
- We're Wastin' Time: From the non-US versions of "Metamorphosis" with a slightly longer
intro and outro. This and the following four tracks were cut with a studio session band
and/or the Oldham Orchestra. Recording session date: July-Sept., 1964. Sort of a countr
y feel to this, which didn't surface on record until High and Dry on "Aftermath" in 1966
.
- Hear It: An instrumental track with Keith possibly on acoustic guitar and an Oldham or
chestrated back-up arrangement. Recording date: July-Sept., 1964.
- Sleepy City: A Jagger vocal demo from "Metamorphosis". Recording date: July-Sept., 196
4.
- Try A Little Harder: Another "Metamorphosis" track with count in. Recording date: July
-Sept., 1964.
- Somethings Just Stick In Your Mind: Again from non-US versions of "Metamorphosis". A v
ocal demo recorded with session musicians.
- As Time Goes By: Alternate vocal/electric guitar take of As Tears Go By in best qualit
y sound.
- Blue Turns To Gray: An Oldham orchestrated horn induced alternate that would have fit
the standard set by the other early tracks found on "Metamorphosis", but not part of tha
t compilation. Recording date: Nov., 1963.
- Satisfaction: An instrumental version of the song that has been in circulation for som
e time, but this is the best quality.
- Looking Tired: Another of the original "Bright Lights Big City" tracks this time the r
ecording source is RCA Studios, LA, Sept., 1965. The guitar riff is lifted from Robert J
ohnson's 32-20 Blues, which he lifted from a piano blues by Delta Bluesman Skip James ca
lled 20-20 Blues! The earliest Johnson influenced Stones song I have come across.
- Paint It Black: An instrumental version of the song that has been in circulation for s
ome time, but this is the best quality. Recorded in March, 1966.
- Lady Jane: The vocal is way in the back on this, but audible.
- Get Yourself Together: The vocal version of this title in best quality. Out of place f
or a 1966 track. It might have worked on "Between The Buttons".
- Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow?: Only the backing vocals are p
resent.
- Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadow?: An alternate take.
- Let's Spend The Night Together: Noticeable "wow" on the tape source in a couple of pla
ces. Only the backing vocals are present. Recorded in January, 1967.
The second CD of the set covers the unreleased work of the late sixties.
CD-2 (VTCD YD 047)
The following eight songs through My Obsession are instrumentals in excellent quality th
at first surfaced on a CD titled "Karaoke" (VTCD YD 033) on the same label, and also inc
luded lyric sheets written in English and Japanese. These are interesting tracks despite
being instrumentals, because there is a great deal of production to be heard on these P
op efforts by a Rock 'n Roll band.
- Get Yourself Together: This song a.k.a. Can't Believe and I Can See It. Vocal version
on CD-1.
- Let's Spend The Night Together: Instrumental version.
- All Sold Out: Instrumental version. Keith's put a couple of pick slides on this that I
hadn't noticed before.
- Yesterday's Papers: Instrumental version
- Ruby Tuesday: Instrumental with count in.
- Complicated: Instrumental version
- Please, Go Home: Instrumental version
- My Obsession: Instrumental version
- Cosmic Christmas: There is also a rare unauthorized 7" of this song on green vinyl tha
t has stereo/mono versions of just this track. Play it backwards and see what happens!
- Family: A droll song from " Metamorphosis".
- Downtown Suzie: This is an alternate version without the annoying skip that has shown
up on a number of recordings.
- Hamburger To Go: Best quality version with just a single subdued "pop" at 2:30. Also m
istakenly referred to as "Stuck Out All Alone", and labeled as "Give Me a Hamburger" on
the original vinyl release titled "Trident Mixes" on K&S records (MCG/KS-072-A/B/C/D). T
he actual title of this song first surfaced in "The First Twenty Years", 1981 by David D
alton on page 190 (sessionography by Tom Beach & James Karnback). Recorded at Olympic st
udios, Spring, 1968. A Beggars Banquet session.
- I'm A Country Boy: Another of the original "Trident Mixes" instrumental tracks. Record
ed at Elektra, Hollywood, Nov.-Dec., 1971, during the mixing and dubbing of the "Exile"
sessions.
- Memo From Turner #1: Sounds like session man Jimmy Page is putting the violin bow to t
he Paisley Tele? "Metamorphosis" version of the song.
- Memo From Turner #2: A great "intermediate" version. Somewhere between the "Metamorpho
sis" version, and the Ry Cooder "Performance" movie take. This is probably the Olympic,
1968 take. A groove track!
- Sister Morphine: Album version taken from an acetate mix down. Some surface noise.
- Still A Fool: Mistakenly referred to as Two Trains on many occasions. This is the stud
io version of the Muddy Waters classic. Distorted vocal maybe through a harp mic. Check
out the Muddy Waters original on the MCA/Chess release "the best of Muddy Waters", order
no. CHD-31268. Two of the songs are recorded from vinyl, but these tracks represent the
early roots of The Rolling Stones. Played live for the first time on the '95 European T
our.
- You Got The Silver: The Jagger vocal version for the 176th time. First surfaced on the
"Accidents Will Happen" 2LP in the early eighties.
- Highway Child: Recorded at Keith's house at Redlands, July, 1968. A jam with Keith exp
erimenting with chord changes. At one point it starts sounding like the old .38 Special
song Hold On Loosely! Best sounding version.
The third CD of the set covers the unreleased work of the "Beggars Banquet" through "Exi
le On Main Street" period.
CD-3 (VTCD YD 048)
- Sympathy For the Devil: Compressed sound with "who..who's" way down in the mix. There
are also a few bars edited from Keith's solo. Recorded at Olympic studios in June, 1968.
- Country Honk: Missing the fiddle track and the familiar car horn. A transitional song
that reveals the influences of the time. Gram Parsons' turning Keith on to the soul of c
ountry music, and open tunings that were prevalent in the Country (Delta) Blues. Even th
e Rock version of the song reflects the impact of working with Ry Cooder during the "Let
It Bleed" sessions, and Keith's enduring preference for Open G tuning that followed. Hi
s earlier efforts with open tunings were in open D & E on songs such as Child Of The Moo
n, Street Fighting Man (studio), and Prodigal Son.
- Gimme Shelter: A different mix and vocal. Lot's of bass in the opening bars of the son
g. Minus the Merry Clayton vocal. Recorded at Olympic Studios in May-June, 1969.
- Loving Cup: This could be the pre-Hyde Park studio version of the song. First surfaced
on "Time Trip 1969-1973 Vol. 1" on Scorpio. Possibly from a May-June session at Olympic
in 1969.
- Jiving Sister Fanny: Muffled sound with a different vocal take. Taylor burns it up.
- Honky Tonk Women: A studio version of the song containing the Paris verse that was onl
y heard on early 70's live versions of the song. Also missing horn arrangements. Recorde
d at Olympic Studios in May-June, 1969.
- All Down The Line (Acoustic): One of the great examples of how the band can evolve son
gs. Slow acoustic guitar version. First surfaced in the late 70's, but this has excellen
t clarity and corrected speed. Recorded at Elektra studios in LA, Oct., 1969.
- All Down The Line (Electric): This is not the 7" single version of the song that usual
ly shows-up on these recordings. Different mix, and harp solo at 3:05. An Olympic Oct.-N
ov., 1970 recording.
- I Don't Know The Reason Why: Not hard to guess why this hasn't been released. A shorte
r version of the song.
- I'm Going Down: Last of the "Metamorphosis" songs. It's the familiar guitar restart al
bum version. Hard to say whether this is a production error or a retake by Keith.
- You Gotta Move: An alternate take of the Mississippi Fred McDowell classic. There is a
lot of vocal reverb at the beginning, and the slide guitar goes into a "wah" effect at
the end. A Muscle Shoals, Dec., 1969 recording. Part of the work at this studio is docum
ented in the "Gimme Shelter" movie. Fred's original version of "You Got To Move" is foun
d on "Fred McDowell Vol. 2" on Arhoolie Records. Order no. F 1027.
- Brown Sugar: The earliest known version. Some of the fundamental tracks are inherited
by later takes. Muscle Shoals, Dec., 1969.
- Brown Sugar: Starts-stops-restarts-stops-restarts. Sloppy production by the manufactur
er of a take that is very similar to the album.
- Bitch: This is the album version of the song that starts off with some subtle cymbal t
apping just before the start, and completely wipes out at 2:18 when the tape fouls-up.
- Good Time Women: The well known first version of Tumbling Dice. An Olympic, Oct., 1970
recording.
- Sway: The 7" single version with a different mix and take.
- C.S. Blues: The infamous let's make the last song we owe Decca a real good one! Record
ed at Olympic in May, 1970. The origins and inspiration are explained by Marshall Chess
in the opening 10 minutes of the movie with the same title. Interestingly, the song was
rehearsed at the Woodstock rehearsals in preparation of the 1978 US Tour. Was Jagger rem
inded of this song by a copy of an unauthorized recording purchased while in New York? H
e commented on unauthorized recordings at some length in an interview from the early 70'
s.
CD-4 (YD 2000)
Only on Millennium numbered limited edition reissue
- Confessin' The Blues: True Stereo Version. That Mick Jagger blows a real mean harp man
.
- I've Been Loving You Too Long: The true studio version without the fake audience screa
ming added by Glynn Johns on the "Got Live If You Want It!" album. The particular versio
n first appeared on the German LP "For Collector's Only" in the mid Seventies.
- Poison Ivy: This is an alternate version to that heard on "More Hot Rocks (big hits &
fazed cookies)". It has a percussive scrape added during the chorus. It is also found on
several import re-issue LP's put out by Decca in the Seventies.
- Fortune Teller: The true studio version without the fake audience screaming added by G
lynn Johns on the "Got Live If You Want It!" album.
- Time is on My Side: Organ introduction version.
- Con Le Mie Lacrime: As Tears Go By sung by Jagger in Italian with added harpsichord! O
fficially released in the Sixties on a 7" single with Picture Sleeve.
- Da Doo Ron Ron: Officially released but not easy to find. It a demo with Jagger and Th
e Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra.
- We Love You: The heavy melotron laden instrumental version.
- Dandelion (1:58): Early Keith Richards vocal work out. A.k.a. Sometimes Happy, Sometim
es Blue.
- 19th Nervous Breakdown: True Stereo Version with alternate vocal.
- Yesterday's Papers: Early demo version with Jagger "producing" the vocal and arrangeme
nt.
- Gimme Shelter: Keith Richards vocal version with piano accented introduction.
- Sister Morphine: "Ready" intro version. There is an arpeggio versus strummed guitar ac
companiment in the opening bars of the song. Ry Cooder shows up at 1:56 with the alterna
te slide arrangement.
- Brown Sugar: "Hot Rocks" XZAL 11018 Shelley version, specifically with matrix number d
ate of 11-18-71. This is closer to the demo version heard in the hotel room scene in the
movie "Gimme Shelter".
- Wild Horses: "Hot Rocks" XZAL 11018 Shelley version, specifically with matrix number d
ate of 11-18-71. There is noticeable vocal reverb added on this take.
- Sister Morphine: Original Vocal Version by co-writer Marianne Faithfull! Complete with
the Cooder slide and organ. One of the most compelling vocals she has ever recorded. Ma
ybe only second to Why D'ya Do It!
- Japan flexidisc phone call (Jagger 8:50): King Record Company interview. This was orig
inally included in early rare versions of "Beggars Banquet" issued in Japan. The recordi
ng also surfaced on the late Seventies unauthorized LP "100% Odd Lots or the Best of the
Rest".
There's something on this box set for everyone. First ever releases of some songs and be
st quality version of the older ones. Jagger isn't too keen on the concept of retrospect
ive box sets these days, so this is probably as good as it gets.
ENJOY!!

Quality is "A-" -Sonny doesn't play many shows anymore and has slowed down a bit, so this was very special... when the show was announced last Spring, I knew this would be the most special show I'd see this year. If you get a chance to see him, don't miss it or you may regret it - like many of the other jazz masters, we likely won't have Sonny around much longer! -show itself was sweet - the first 2 tracks are great! and "Don't Stop the Carnival": well I could listen to that tune for an hour straight and not get tired of it! Go Sonny go!!! -I dedicate this to Sonny himself: whenever I'm feeling a bit down, if I put Sonny on I'm smiling instantly. Love you Sonny - thanx for all your great playing over the years!

Calvin Russell & Gary Craft - May 21, 1993 - 10. Singer-Songwriter-Festival Frutigen, Airfield, Frutigen, Switzerl and ** DRS 3-FM to DAT master, MWM 0092 ** UNPLUGGED - JUST ONE VOICE AND 2 ACOUSTIC GUITARS with samples Preliminary remark: I know that there is a bootleg out containing this concert (and more), but i've never seen/heard it so far and so i have no exact lineage: "Texan Tales" (Acoustic live Frutigen w/Gary Craft) 21. May 1993 (Blue Beat) Checking the http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/bot-dimeadozen-org/ i found out that this bootleg was once upped by "LiveIsLife" on March 10, 2006 and banned on March 19, 2006 (abandoned by the uploader, technical problems). This torrent here is not bootleg-sourced, it's from our masters, DRS 3-FM to DAT. To my knowledge (and proved with some internet investigation) nothing of this concert here was ever used commercially... And included is just the COMPLETE UNPLUGGED CONCERT of Calvin & Gary, NOT the other three, full electric songs they did together later that night with Polo Hofer & the Schmetterband plus Frutigen Allstars... (songs: A Blues/All Along The Watchtower/Big Brother). This recording here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archive. "MWM" started in the 70ies in South Germany with analog recording equipment, and at least two of them are still recording sometimes (since the 90ies on DAT, and, lazy as we are, since lately with small, handheld WAV-recorders on SD-cards). The "MWM" startet as a project of friends sharing their hobbies together. But by reason of jobs, partners and other interests the circle of all involved shrinked. It's been really a long time since Calvin Russell was here on DIME. One of the last uploads was mine, last September, a HOT*FM radioshow from 1997. And i remember my friends 38f and lolive did some uploads - thanks, Fabio and Olivier ! So it's time to share SOME MORE... SADLY CALVIN'S WEBSITE IS DOWN AT THE MOMENT, SO I HAVE TO CHECK OUT SOME OTHER INTERNET SOURCES: About Calvin Russell: Calvin Leon Russell is a former American football wide receiver with the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League. Date of birth: June 14, 1983 (1983-06-14) (age 25) Place of birth: Fairburn, Georgia OH NO - HE'S TOO YOUNG !! AND NOT A SINGER/SONGWRITER FROM TEXAS... LET ME TRY A SECOND TIME: About Calvin Russell: Calvin RUSSELL was born in Lexington, Massachusetts, on 12 Jan 1762. When the American Revolution broke out he was living in Groton, Massachusetts. After fighting in the Revolutionary War, Calvin moved with his father Ephraim and brothers Ephraim and Joseph from Massachusetts to Canaan in Somerset County, Maine. OH NO - HE'S TOO OLD !! AND ALSO NOT A SINGER/SONGWRITER FROM TEXAS... DAMN !! PLEASE ALLOW ME A THIRD ATTEMPT: About Calvin Russell: From the heart of Texas the land of longhorn cattle, rocking boogie, bikers scorching hot summers, tornados, big blue skies and miles of highways stretching from Beaumont to El Paso comes Calvin Russell. HEY, SOUNDS FINE, SO FAR...LET'S CONTINUE: Calvin Russell in his own words best describes himself as "An outlaw rock and roll soldier fighting sorrow in modern times". He was born in Austin / Texas on October 31, 1948 (the Halloween night). Calvin spent his first years on the counter of the "SHO Nuff Cafe" where his father "Red" was the short order cook and his mother Daisy worked as a waitress. Calvin says: "We knew we were on the wrong side of the tracks, but I loved the freedom of it, I was building hot rods and running around Texas while other kids were still riding bicycles". Being the sixth of nine children Calvin picked up the guitar at the age of twelve. By thirteen he was playing rhythm guitar in his first band "The Cavemen". He began to run above the law for what he calls "unimportant stuff". After being sent to juvenile home and shortly thereafter to a state prison, he began his southwestern adventures on the seat of a Harley Davidson. Calvin began crossing the Rio Grande at Piedras Negras and El Paso to find adventure, write and sing. This part of Texas is known as "The Valley", the beginning of the truly forsaken desolate desert that stretches west to Death Valley and Baja California. Calvin spent the early 80`s in and out of South Texas back and forth across "The Valley", living the life of a vagabond in this smuggling ground. Landing in prison in Nuevo Laredo Old Mexico in the winter of 1985 he found himself sleeping on a concrete mattress in the coldest winter that desolate has ever seen. In San Francisco he met Singer- Songwriter Frenchy Ford who teached him to write songs. Following his return to Austin Calvin upgraded his sleeping quarters to the dirt space under a house on Patterson Avenue in Old Clarkesville as he tried to convince the Austin music industry to listen to his songs. Calvin also found himself hanging out in several of the alcohol and drug laced writer enclaves of the Hill Country just outs ide the city. The places that had provided hideouts to outlaws throughout western history, also provided renegade songwriters such as Townes van Zandt, Jimmy Dale Gilmour, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Jerry Jeff Walker and Michael Murphy with a creative working environment. These southern talents and wild smokey hills provided inspiration for the like of Blaze Foley, Calvin, Lee Fuller, Rich Minus and Hal Ketchum. In 1985 Calvin recorded his first Single "Eight Balls" bw "Baby I Love You". The single went nowhere, but nowadays it's a real collector's item, which shows only the top of his musical potential. The last copies of this single were sold during his European tour in the early 90's. In 1989 Calvin had recorded a full lenght demo tape, which he wanted to handle to his mate Charlie Sexton. He never got the tape, but a guy from Germany did, who released the tape under the group's name "The Characters". Only 600 copies were sold by Hamburg label "Line Records". Later in 1989 French record producer Patrick Mathe first met Calvin at the Continental Club in Austin. He signed him to a recording deal with New Rose Records "because he had this crazy hat". All his albums since then have painted stories reaching from Texas to the crossroads of humanity, a place where no man can claim a country. His first french release "A Crack in Time" was hailed as a great record, in the colors of the Lone Star State and led to festival stints in Europe with Little Village and the Kinks. Gary Craft was a brilliant guitarist, whose playing blew your socks off. His second album "Sounds from the Fourth World" offering more depictions from the seedier side of life, captured the attention of both french audiences and music critics alike. This release featured the fantasic single "Crossroads" considered one of Calvin`s classics. "Soldier" his third release with New Rose was produced by Jim Dickinson. Nine Tracks captured the raw energy and straightforward nature of Calvin`s live performance. Les Inrockuptibles said of the disc: "There are evenings where the choice is simple if you want it to convince your sweetheart either listen to Blonde on Blonde again or put on "Soldier". Success with this record led New Rose to release a Calvin live album entitled "Le Voyageur". This release was recorded during sold out shows at the Olympia Theatre in Paris, EXO-7 in Rouen, Zig Zag in Orleans and the Elysee-Montmartre in Paris. In 1993 Calvin played 178 shows in Europe. Among these was a great unplugged concert at the 10. Singer-Songwriter Festival at Frutigen. About the legendary but unfortunately now gone singer-songwriter-festival of Frutigen: Frutigen was one of the first towns in Switzerland to organize their own Festival. Artists 1993: Paulette Carlson, USA Joe Ely, USA The Mavericks, USA Jo-El Sonnier, USA Heather Myles, USA Tish Hinojosa, USA Calvin Russell, USA Tim O`Brian, USA Marcia Ball, USA Jim Lauderdale, USA Rosie Flores, USA Katy Moffatt, USA 3 Wheel Drive, USA Sarah Campell, USA David Rodriguez, USA Polo Hofer Schmetterband, CH Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Oklahoma... Long-time european fans of american 'roots' music consider this world as if it were the most natural thing in the world and often they're more familiar with it than with their native cultural posessions - perhaps nurtured by a fair amount of wanderlust now and then. The USA seems to have an inexhaustible reservoir of talented persons and each year some of them come as a surprise to us. It's ASCHI MAURER and his team who, for as long as 14 years, make every possible effort to let us discover live on stage so many of these artists and legends over here in German-speaking Europe. However, giving a name to this event wasn't too easy. Singer/Songwriter? Roots music? Country? Country-rock? Or maybe even black influences like blues or soul? Or second-line rhythms from New Orleans? Actually, no matter how it's pigeon-holed, the only thing that counts is the QUALITY of music which is outstanding at the Singer-Songwriter-Festival !! PRINT-REVIEWS: The Frutigen Festival stands for Diversity. This opportunity to appreciate various cultures all singing under the same tent is a statment to the world that we can indeed overcome our language barriers and become a community. - San Antonio Express (USA) Highlights included gracious hotel operators, musicans jamming until the sun rose over the snow covered tops of the surrounding mountains, fans waiting in line for hours to get autographs, fields blazing softly with the varied colors of the mountain flowers, the smiles on the faces of fans, musicians and festival promoter and producers. The only thing missing was a Texas audience to Witness the magic evoked by a part of our heritage. - Kerrville Daily (USA) Drei Tage Konzerterlebnisse der feinen Sorte! George Russell - Umbria Jazz Fest, Perugia, Italy, Jul. 15, 2002, FM
Notes:
GEORGE RUSSELL LIVING TIME ORCHESTRA Umbria Jazz Festival, Perugia, Italy, 15 July 2002 Italian Radio broadcast Ah, one day George Russell will get his due. The torrent of The Swedish Living Time orchestra ( still running, http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=108167) has had only 53 snatch es so far... Nevertheless, when I saw that this fine concert was gone from the tracker (even as a dead torrent), I thought I would up it again. Great show, great quality. lineage: FM > WAV > FLAC (+ possibly > WAV > FLAC, as I seem to remember raising levels & re-tr acking) 01 - Listen to the Silence 02 - George talks about Sabu Martinez 03 - Cubano-Be, Cubano-Bop 04 - All About Rosie Part 1 05 - All About Rosie Part 2 06 - All About Rosie Part 3 07 - Stratosphunk 08 - Electronic Sonata For Souls Loved By Nature Part 1 09 - Electronic Sonata For Souls Loved By Nature Part 2 (from tape flip to end) 10 - So What George Russell, leader Stanton Davis, Tiger Okoshi, Stuart Brooks, trumpet Dave Bargeron, trombone Richard Edwards, bass trombone Honshuku Hiru, flute Steve Slagle, alto sax George Garzone, tenor sax Pete Hurt, baritone sax Brad Hatfield, Steve Lodder, keyboards Mike Walker, guitar Bill Urmson, electric bass Billy Ward, drums Pat Hollenbeck, percussion GEORGE RUSSELL LIVING TIME ORCHESTRA (by Mitchell Feldman) Composer, arranger and bandleader George Russell, who with the publication in 1953 of his Lydia n Concept of Tonal Organization became one of the few individuals to make a theoretical contrib ution to the stylistic development of modern jazz, inaugurated a 6-night stand during UJ 2002 a t the Teatro Morlacchi on Monday evening with a program that included five works that revealed the versatility and originality of a true musical visionary. Russell, who had previously appear ed at UJ in 1990 and 1994, returned to Perugia at the helm of an edition of his Living Time Orc hestra that includes such stellar soloists as trumpeters Tiger Okoshi and Stanton Davis, trombo nist Dave Bergeron and saxophonists Steve Slagle and George Garzone. At the beginning of the co ncert Russell informed the audience that as its name implies, his ensemble has indeed <93>lived in time<94> and can trace its origins back to the late 1940s when he was hired to compose and arrange for Dizzy Gillespie<92>s orchestra. In fact one of the five pieces performed Monday nig ht was <93>Cubana-Be, Cubana-Bop,<94> which Russell wrote in 1947 and was thefirst composition to synthesize modern jazz with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Russell<92>s extended residency at UJ 20 02 will provide audiences with an opportunity to hear a broad selection of the inventive music he has composed during the course of a career that has spanned six decades. For example, in add ition to <93>Cubana-Be,<94> Monday<92>s concert included the sassy, sensual and syncopated <93> All About Rosie,<94> an orchestral suite Brandeis University commissioned from Russell in 1958, as well as <93>Stratusphunk<94> from 1956 and <93>Electronic Sonata For Souls Loved By Nature, <94> a work commissioned by Swedish Radio in 1968 that was released on the Italian jazz label S oul Note Records. Russell<92>s music has <93>lived in time<94> as well as his ensemble, as the arrangements performed this year reveal. Over the years he has continued to refine and update h is compositions and the Living Time Orchestra<92>s performances at the Teatro Morlacchi every m idnight through 20 July provide a rare opportunity to experience in person the music of a livin g jazz master.

Notes:
Leon Russell Flood Vol 4: "The Other 1970 Live Show" Complete performance from uncirculated mas ter AUD tape San Bernardino Swing Auditorium 1970-12-xx Guys (and gals), I give up on this one. I know that it was recorded during the same time period as the well-known Rubber Dubber vinyl bootleg, and that it's probably only a few days differen ce in time, but I can't pin the date down. Maybe you can. This show has been sitting on my hard drive for nearly 8 months. The digitizing of this show wa s actually prior to doing the Volume 3 torrent. Problems with getting the date right and actual ly documenting the event made me put it away. No longer, you can hear it in its full glory. Leon Russell - The Legendary NET Special, 1971
Notes:
Leon Russell Flood Vol1: The Legendary NET Special (PBS) LA 1971 This superb show has unfortunately never been released. The source is supposedly an FM simoulca st, but I don't believe it as the sound quality is a bit better than FM. This is from one of th e many early bootleg vinyl pressings that were put out at the time, but is not from the Zerocks Records release that is the most common. The sound quality on that release was not as good as the Bush Records vinyl, so the Bush Records vinyl was used instead. A lot of restoration work w ent into this project, check out the lineage below. The track listing on all releases is wrong, this is the correct setlist: Will the Circle Be Unbroken? Caravan (the Van Morrison Caravan, that is) It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry Delta Lady A Song For you Furry's Blues Amos Burke Honky Tonk Woman Sweet Emily Prince Of Peace Girl Of The North Country Big Boss Man Georgia Queen So Strange The outro at the end of So Strange was taken from the Zerocks Records release, it doesn't appea r on the Bush version. The Furry who sings Furry's Blues is the same Furry who Joni Mitchell wrote a song about (Furry Sings The Blues). As the story goes, the old man gave his permission at first, then sued her w hen the song became more popular. LEON & MARY RUSSELL with ERIC CLAPTON-1974-08-00-New York, --- Unreleased Recording Session-Great sounding sbd!! --- Friends, as a contribution to the recent Leon Russell Flood, heres another great and unusual recording with Leon & Mary Russell, doing some recording with Eric Clapton, in very listenable stereo sbd quality!! Starting to add some great guitar to a 1974 Leon & Mary Russell recording, the recor ding session changed quickly to a Jam session where they did their classic favorites............................. ... Beside some help in producing( listen to talk after the 1st song!), Eric did some fine playing and singing together with Leon & Mary Russell! Leon plays, as usual, a great piano & probably, some really great guitar on the last track! One thing I sure can promise , there isn t hardly a dull moment here & every new track is better than the one before! The version of "Paint it Black", they played, is simply great! MP 3 sample below! Tracklist: 01-/A way to make my Life worth living (?) 5.15 voc: Mary 02-Producing Chats-Meet me in the Bottom 10.06 voc: Eric/Mary/Eric 03-Up Tempo Blues Jam 5.33 some very low back voc: Mary 04-Paint it Black Instr. 7.42 05-Crossroads Jam (?)/Help me Jesus (?) 10.54 voc: Eric 06-Musicians chat 0.54 Lineup: Leon Russel: piano, keyb. g (?) on Track 5 only Mary Russel: voc, keyb.
