On that page it says:
This collection of demos with band has a more country-orientated feel than the final version of Co
pperhead Road, and thus seems more like the logical successor to Exit 0. Certainly an interesting
listen, but it often ends up sounding a little emasculated by comparison with the full-blooded sna
rl of the released album.

Barcelona Rdio 4 FM station
(comments in catalan and spanish)

Here you have this excellent and powerful performance of Dave and his band.
I was at this concert while being recorded in home in a tape 18 years ago.
The sound is not excellent but is quite good, from a FM Radio station.
There are some seconds missing in two songs (8 and 9) but this is what I have.
I think you won't find this concert anywhere, maybe you already have a poor copy
from this very same master before it was cleaned and passed to CD.
I've listened to some Dave Edmunds shows and this is by far my favourite of all times.
Enjoy!
Merry Xmas and happy new year!

edited with Soundforge > CDWav > Total Audio Converter > FLAC. No EQ used. Only edit
ing was to remove loud moron whistling between songs and to smooth transitions from t
ape flips.

Joe Ely performing at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, Colorado, with opening act, The
Blasters. Phil Alvin from The Blasters
joined Joe on two songs during encores. Blasters opened the night and only the encor
e was recorded, so is included as a bonus track. Recorded on Maxell 90 minute tapes,
so there are two cuts during flip. I've
identified most songs, but corrections are encouraged.

It was my first Joe Ely show and lead me to see Joe at every chance and collect every
CD since. I encourage all to do yourself a favor and get to a Joe show and buy Joe'
s CDs. Thanks Joe!

Your comments will let me know if it was worth seeding. Enjoy!

Friends, here we have a 2 CD set not commonly circulated, these are different takes a
nd versions along with many unreleased songs, I've made notes on each individual trac
k for referance and had to omit 3 songs as the vocal tracks on each sound the same as
the released versions or close enough I wasn't commortable including them.

Many of these songs in my opinion are superior to the songs that showed up on the ver
y commercial MCA release. Highlights include an excellent studio version of "A Thous
and Miles From Home" only available as a live version on "Live At Antone's" and the e
pic "Take Me Down" which is a bit of a departure from Joe's normal style.

For you David Grissom fans (which I include myslelf) we get a bunch unreleased songs
with some nice guitar work.

Enjoy!

Highways & Heartaches (OMITTED)

Baby Needs A New Pair Of Shoes
(Unreleased)
I read an article back in June about the new CD
he has been working on and it mentions a song
called "Baby Needs A New Pair Of Shoes" written
after Katrina, we have here evidence that it is a song
written over a decade ago that he is apparently
revisiting.

Up A Tree
(Unreleased)
Reggae feel to a song about a guy that apparently gets himself in a bit
of trouble and knows he has to face the consequences while he appeals for
help.

Slow You Down (OMITTED)

A Thousand Miles From Home
(Unreleased studio version)
Live version appears on "Live At Antone's"

Easy Street
(Unreleased)
A rocker about how nothing in life is free and you have to
work for what you want.
"I ain't lookin' for easy street, I've been down that ally before.
I ain't lookin' for easy street, I'm lookin' for a whole lot more"

They Sing Of Her Beauty
(Unreleased)
Mid-tempo ballad about a legendary southern beauty that
in the end is not as beautiful as the legend.

Mansfield Dam
(Unreleased)
Mid tempo rocker about a new love

She's One Of A Kind
(Unreleased)
Self explanatory

Pins & Needles (OMITTED)

Back To My Old Molehill
(Unreleased Joe Ely version)
Eventually released by The Flatlanders on Wheel Of Fortune
sung by Jimmie Dale Gilmore.
This version has more of a Latin feel to it.

There's Never Been
(Unreleased)
Contrived piano ballad that could be a hit for some mainstream
country act.

Love Is The Beating Of Hearts
Different take; different second verse. This version is
slightly shorter with no cymbals on intro and
different guitar parts/tones. No harmonica present and a
different vocal take.

She Collected
More stripped down and a bit faster tempo than released version,
less acoustic guitar on this version and a more straight forward vocal.
A very different feel to this version, a version I prefer to the released
version.

I Got A Line On You
(Unreleased)
Upbeat rocker about a guy chasing a wild woman with late night
habits

Look Of Love
(Unreleased)
Mid tempo rocker about a woman with the "look of love" in everything
 she does.

My My
(Unreleased)
Another wild woman song that can't commit.
Heart And Soul
Unreleased
Mid tempo rocker about filling up your 'heart and soul" and all your
troubles be gone.

Take Me Down
(Unreleased)
Sounds like a song that may have been done by someone else? A bit
of an epic sounding tune with carnival music interludes throughout.
Great song and a bit different for Joe, seems like I've heard something like it befo
re
but can't place it. Great stuf with nice Grissom guitar.

Track 6 didn't get split up properly during the original transfer from the source tape so it is
 actually 2 songs.

About halfway through the second disc there was a severe volume drop, I have corrected that so
it is not noticeable during the last half of the disc. I suppose in that regards it is an upgr

Soundboard recorded at the legendary Gruene Hall, this is a hot show in A+ quality.
There are no cuts or edits, it's smooth sailing from start to finish and what a wonderful trip it is.

Even though it's a year later I consider this show a companion show to the 1999 New Year's Show
I posted a few months back, same great performance, same great quality.

I have a 1st generation board of the next night (30th) as well that I will post in the near future.

NOTES: Well, it's hard to beat one of Joe Ely Band's
classic lineups playing on New Year's Eve in Austin.
This is a really nice recording of an excellent show ...
that was almost lost to history (sort of). Taper lost
power when saving the show to disc, and when power
was restored, the readout said: "blank disc." Distraught
doesn't begin to cover taper's emotions. However, a friend
told taper that data probably was there, just needed to be
retrieved. Alas, he was right, and a really, really cool guy
named Rick eventually saved the day and show for posterity. So ...

This show includes some great covers -- Buddy Holly, Woody
Guthrie, Dylan, Townes -- and of course the JEB classics,
including an epic 15-minute version of "Loretta." During that song,
Patricia Vonne (one of the earlier performers) entered playing the
castanets as the spectre of "Loretta," providing some nice sparks
between Joe and David. Other highlights include usual showstoppers
"Bamboo Shade" and "Boxcars," a guest shot from Jimmie Dale
Gilmore and an all-hands-on-deck "Auld Lang Syne" at midnight.
Everybody was on stage in weird costumes, throwing confetti, going
nuts ... doesn't really translate to audio, but it was crazy.

David's guitar is kinda down in the mix at the start, but it comes up
soon and is ripping the rest of the way. Lots of interplay between
David and Lloyd. There's a millisecond dropout during "Boxcars,"
the only obvious audio flaw on this. Another classic Joe Ely Band show.
As usual, thanks goes to Joe and all the boys for the memories,
and please support them and their other projects by attending a
show or buying a disc or two. Would also like to recommend Reckless
Kelly and Patricia Vonne, the support this night. They were great.
Please do not encode to mp3 or sell. Enjoy. On with the show ...

NOTES: Really nice recording and show, with lots of
texture and finesse by Joe and Joel (on accordion and
backup vocals) in front of an appreciative crowd.
New song "Miss Bonnie And Mr. Clyde" (think that's
the title) is kind of a cross between "Me And Billy
The Kid" and "The Road Goes On Forever," the second
in the trilogy, Joe says. It's pretty funny, and he pretty
much made it through unscathed as far as not flubbing new
lyrics. Joe did a lot of picking up and down the guitar neck this
night, and the fine house sound makes this a very enjoyable
listen. He also played both of his Chihuahua songs (thus
the title of this particular recording), a handful of "Streets
Of Sin" cuts, a beautiful version of Billy Joe Shaver's classic
"Live Forever" and a jaw-dropping run through "Boxcars." As
always, huge thanks to Joe and all the boys for all the great
times over the years, and please support them by attending
a show or buying a disc or two. You can't go wrong. Also,
if you make it to Dallas, drop by Poor David's Pub, a great venue
that consistently provides solid talent and a "listening room" vibe.
I would be remiss if I didn't offer a salute to late Joe Ely Band
legen Jesse "Guitar" Taylor, who passed recently. Peace, Jess.
Please don't trade in mp3 or sell. Enjoy. On with the show ...

NOTES: Excellent recording of a quick Ely Band headlining
gig at the Houston International Festival in the parks around
downtown Houston. Joe dedicates the set at the end to late
longtime JEB axeman Jesse "Guitar" Taylor, who sadly left
us in April. Songs on the encore are a shade louder than the
rest because ol' Mike felt the need to distance from some fans
who were just starting to yak as "Streets" began -- a really nice
version of "Streets," by the way. Still, the sound is crisp all the
way. As usual, all thanks go to Joe and all the fellas for the great
times over the years, and please support them by attending a gig
or purchasing a disc or two. You'll never regret it. Also, Mike wants
to dedicate this to Jesse as well, a heroic figure in Texas music
who was cool and human as he was talented and authentic.
God bless ya, Jess, and God bless Joe Ely. Enjoy. On with the show ...
