Some annoying crowd chatter during Set Me Free (they shut up after I asked 'em "poli

No technical problems this time - this is my first flawless John Cale recording ;)
It was very hot in the venue and JC obviously had problems with that, especially wit
h the heat of the floodlights behind him.

Notes:
Due to bandwidth constraints on Big Rick's server, I have split these up into separate tracks for easier down
load. But if you burn a cd from them as DAO ( a sub-sect of the Buddhist religion) it should go back together
as a continuous concert - I know some folks prefer this.
Audience recording on MD.
Transferred to .wav file on PC via Terratec DMX 6/Fire 24/96
Slight adjustment made to the tone to 'brighten' up the sound in Algorithmix/Terratec Sound Laundry, otherwis
e as it came of the MD.
On 'Pepita' and 'Quattro', I have edited out a couple of seconds of obtrusive audience talk that was inadever
tently caught. If you're not listening too closely, you probably won't notice it (but now you will:-). I thou
ght it sounded better than leaving the chat in, cos that really pissed me off.

Unfortunately I walked away from the gear to enjoy the scene
and ran out of battery toward the end of the show. When I
saw it I put a new battery in and resumed recording. I think
there's about 20 minutes missing. There's a fade out on
track 11 of the Iron & Wine set. There was another taper
but the recording has not surfaced yet.

Applied some volume envelopes to a few tracks to tame the
dynamics of switching from soft Iron & Wine to the full on
Calexico horn assault!

CALEXICO
The Fillmore Auditorium
San Francisco, CA
December 9, 2006

This is a recording of Calexico's second enthralling, full-length set opening for Los Lobo
s during Lobos's annual December stand at the venerable Fillmore. Rarely do opening bands
receive the kind of reverent attention and response that Calexico did that weekend, so th
at makes these gigs particularly memorable and enjoyable for me to share. Among my favori
tes out of this set are Jesus & Tequila and Sonic Wind, during which the crowd was so abso
rbed in the music, one literally could have heard a pin drop leading into Jacob's solo. R
eally, an amazing moment. Enoy and please share.

CAN performing live at the Bataclan Club, Paris on 1-17-1975.

The 2nd disc has some filler from Hatfield Polytechnic, Hatfield UK on 11-21-1975. Excellent set, so good in
fact I burned 2 sets in case I lost one, and this one is only CDA, the *other* had the original NFO file and
some artwork (CD Extra). Anyhow, enjoy this boot, it features Tim Hardin on vocals for the Hatfield tracks.

Notes: Slight buzz/hum during the first 3.5 songs. I was the
2nd taper in this daisy-chain. The other taper had to make
some mid-set adjustments to his rig which is why there's a drop
out and the buzz/him. The noise goes away after the cut out.

Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash Show Compilation: Musical Highlights, Vol. 1, DVD

Notes:

The Johnny Cash Show, NTSC-DVD

-- Musical Highlights --

It took me a while to compile this:
This is (basically) a composite of two torrents originally seeded on dimeadozen.org
(one by me, the other one by heyricky -- who has also sought "asylum" on this site)
.

Both torrents were extremely popular, but were banned by DIME because an official
release of some Johnny Cash Show material was announced for Oct 2005 (nothing has b
een released so far --
I checked today).

I realise that once an official release is available, this needs to be "banned"/"pu
lled" -- so far, I have, however,
not heard of any official release being scheduled for the "near" future -- so this
should be "safe" (for the time being) until then.
SO FAR, EVERYTHING IS STILL UNRELEASED.

Rather than arranging the material by the actual shows the footage is from, I have
tried to arrange it (somewhat)
chronologically (music wise) -- from early Rockabilly & Rock'n'Roll of The Everly B
rothers, Roy Orbison & Carl Perkins
to the singer-songwriters of the late 1960s like Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Neil Youn
g and Joni Mitchell.

In all cases, I have used the best quality footage of either of the two DVDs and ad
ded one extra item (an introductory Cash medley)
from my collection.

Video mpeg2, ca. 4,000 kps, NTSC
Audio mp2, 48 kHz, 192 kps, normalised/fade-ins & fade-outs with TMPEnc3XP
Simple (motion) menu authored with TMPEnc DVDAuthor, 47 chapters for artists/songs
AUTHORED TO PLAY AUTOMATICALLY 01-47, menu accessible through "Menu" button

Sources:
in all cases originally VHS-tapes of unknown generation and lineage
-- (a) presumably lower lineage than (b) and (c) which have (some) "losses" in the
color signal mostly
ALL EXTREMELY WATCHABLE, THOUGH!

Johnny Cash - Johnny Cash Show Compilation: Musical Highlights, Vol. 2, DVD

Notes:

JOHNNY CASH SHOW COMPILATION 1969-'70
MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS, VOL. 2 (NTSC-DVD)

Less "spectacular" than Vol. 1 (no real "big name guests"), but equal audio/video q
uality
(original sources: video tapes of unknown generation).
Again, I have not just copied complete individual shows (or one would have had nume
rous versions
of "I Walk The Line"), but have tried to create a "show" (which was never aired tha
t way)
which has a somewhat natural "flow"... and COULD have been aired that way.

Highlights (at least to me): Three complete "Come Along And Ride This Train" segmen
ts,
more Johnny Cash performances than on Vol. 1.

Video mpeg2, ca. 4,000 kps, NTSC
Audio mp2, 48 kHz, 192 kps, normalised/fade-ins & fade-outs with TMPEnc3XP

DISCLAIMER: Due to the age of this footage, audio and video quality might not meet
some leechers' standards.
(one, and of course someone who has a rather low share ratio and does not seem to h
ave contributed anything yet,
felt actually compelled to "note" about Vol. 1: "If I can, just let me make people
aware that there is a fair bit of static
that comes through on most tracks. It's not real distracting but it is still presen
t").

Anyone whose exalted "standards" and sensitive ears are seemingly "assaulted" by ma
terial of that vintage should
(a) not watch/listen to this with earphones
(b) refrain from downloading this
(c) wait for the official release (audio and/or video)
(d) learn to read (and draw conclusions -- what do you expect from 35+ year old foo
tage recorded on amateur equipment?)
(e) contribute something and/or raise his/her share ratio

Centro-Matic
Tenth Anniversary Show
Dan<92>s Bar
Denton, TX
March 4, 2006
DPA 4061>Sony D100>CDR via Sony CDRW33>EAC>FLAC
Microphones placed right on the front of the stage on a amp mic. stand, with full cooperation of the band. Thanks.

Now before anybody contacts the mods, I have full permission to post this show fromthe powers that be. Yes it was filmed and recorded by the band for a possible release, but that apparently won<92>t be happening. Also regarding the track listings, I took them directly from the picture of the setlist, which is included. I love this band, I<92>ll see them anytime I can, and I own all of their records, but for the life of me I don<92>t know the song titles worth a darn. Any help to be as accurateas possible would be great.

This is a nice recording, a little light in the vocal department, but everything else is very clear. Starting on disc 2 you get a bit of a sing a long with the partiers up front, but not enough to ruin it. I know what I recorded with is a stealth rig, but I didn<92>t want to wear my gear as I knew it would be a long show, and I wanted to celebrate a bit too. Also, Dan<92>s can be a noisy place to record from the audience. If others have a tape I hope they can share it. I hope their<92>s might have better vocal definition, and perhaps some soul can matrix the two.

Disc 1

Vic Chesnutt

Vic Chesnutt - Turf Club, St. Paul, MN, Apr. 21, 2003

Notes:

This is a great "Silver Lake" era recording. There are a couple of rarities here. First, Vic d
uets with M. Ward on the opener "Where Were You". Secondly, he encores with a Nina Simone cover
(who had passed away that day).

The recording is a SBD/AUD Matrix and should garner multiple listens, as it not only sounds gre
at but is a great performance as well. Setlist below. Enjoy!

Eric Clapton w/ Mark Knopfler - Royal Albert Hall, London, Jan. 25, 1988

Notes:

ERIC CLAPTON (w/M. Knopfler)
London, Royal Albert Hall
January, 25 1988

Here is another nice one while we wait for the new shows
Got this one in a tape trade many years ago (I guess it was 1988 or 1989), hope it
has never been seeded on Dime.
This is a very clear audience recording and a great night.
Don' t know about the lineage, anyway should be a very low generation (2nd or 3rd)
recording.

You can find some more info at http://www.geetarz.org/reviews/clapton/1988-01-25-ra
h.htm
even if it seems that this is not the same version I am seeding; I think the qualit
y in my copy is better than "3", and
Sunshine Of Your Love is not listed on the cover.
And of course you get also the fabolous Mark Knopfler as a second guitar player !!!
Believe me, this is worth the download.

Disc 1:

Crossroads
White Room
I Shot the Sheriff
Wonderful Tonight
Run (it is split in two tracks, don' t know why)
Same Old Blues
Tearing Us Apart
Holy Mother

Disc 2:

Badge
Let it Rain
Cocaine
A Remark You Made
Layla
Behind the Mask
Sunshine Of Your Love
Money for Nothing
Further On Up the Road

Enjoy and share.

Eric Clapton - 14 Gigs

Notes:

Hoochie Coochie is one of the rarest and most sought-after bootleg labels. They issu
e very limited edition (typically 250-300 copies) box sets of Eric Clapton, usually
an entire stand at a particular venue or and an entire tour of a country. Everything
, from sound quality to artwork and packaging, is first-class.

And the <93>14 Gigs<94> box set is no exception - outstanding AUD tapes, beautifully
mastered. It documents the entire 1999 tour of Japan.

To put this set in some sort of context, it<92>s important to recognize that Clapton
loves Japan and almost always plays well there. I<92>m no mind reader but the obvio
us reasons are that he has a huge and extremely loyal fan base there, and that the J
apanese fans are always very polite and respectful when he plays (one benefit of thi
s for us is that there is very little audience noise while he<92>s actually playing)
. Some of Eric<92>s finest performances have been in Japan, and this set contains so
me real gems! His solo on Have You Ever Loved A Woman on the 27th is one of the most
 beautiful I<92>ve ever heard.

The tour:

Gig 1: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.09
Gig 2: Recorded at the Gym, Nagoya on 1999.11.11
Gig 3: Recorded at the Marine Messe, Fukuoka on 1999.11.13
Gig 4: Recorded at the Castle Hall, Osaka on 1999.11.15
Gig 5: Recorded at the Castle Hall, Osaka on 1999.11.16
Gig 6: Recorded at the Castle Hall, Osaka on 1999.11.17
Gig 7: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.19
Gig 8: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.20
Gig 9: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.22
Gig 10: Recorded at the Arena, Yokohama on 1999.11.24
Gig 11: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.26
Gig 12: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.27
Gig 13: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.29
Gig 14: Recorded at the Budokan, Tokyo on 1999.11.30

Because I am a lazy, no-good slug (yes, sloth is my favorite sin), and I have zip/ze
ro/none/nada interest in putting up a show a day for two weeks, I<92>m going to put
these shows up in four blocks:

BLOCK ONE: Gigs 1 - 4
BLOCK TWO: Gigs 5 - 8
BLOCK THREE: Gigs 9 - 12
BLOCK FOUR: Gigs 13 <96> 14 plus artwork

Band Lineup:

Eric Clapton <96> lead guitar, vocals
Andy Fairweather Low <96> rhythm guitar, vocals
Nathan East <96> bass guitar, vocals
Steve Gadd <96> drums
David Delhomme <96> keyboards
Katie Kissoon <96> backing vocals
Tessa Niles <96> backing vocals

The set list during this tour was taken from:

This is the audio portion of a CHUM-FM/CITY-TV simulcast of a "live in
the studio" concert. Sound quality and performance is excellent. I
watched the TV portion of this as I recorded the audio. Unfortunately,
I did not have a VCR back then, so no video. Bruce is joined by fellow
Canadian Murray McLaughlin who sings a few tunes mid-set. This is a
unique "Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws" era document with some songs
played with a band and others solo.

Hey folkies!

This is one of Bruce's annual "Christmas With Cockburn" concerts. Got this in a trade a lo
ng time ago, so I had to check to make sure it is lossless (it is), and I have included th
e AnalFreq capture to show it's true lineage. A+ quality FM recording of Bruce with specia
l guest Jackson Browne (I will post an mp3 sample below), doing some folksy Christmas tune
s on guitar and piano. A nice set--only complaint is that it is too short.

the sound quality from "Aint That Something" was better than the quality of the complete show.
I used these tracks instead of the ones from the complete show.
I applied speed correction and noise reduction.

Sound notes:
The sound turned out excellent the only flaw is that the voice is down in the mix for the first
 one and a half songs.

Albert Collins - Cotati Cabaret, Cotati, CA, Sep. 17, 1982, SBD

Notes:

lbert Collins
September 17, 1982 early show
Cotati Caberet, Cotati, CA

Recorded and transferred to cd by Easy Ed.

I, Easy Ed, was at the show with my deck connected to the board. This is not a multigener
ational cassette copy acquired through trading- this is the soundboard cassette master.

soundboard > Sony high end desktop cassette deck (recorded with no Dolby on high bias Maxe
ll UDXLII C90 tape)

transfer: JVC KD-V6 cassette deck (playback with no Dolby) > Sek'd Prodif Plus > Sound For
ge 8 (normalize, track splits) > .wav files > FLAC level 7 encoding

I have no clue what the sound titles are, so please help. Here is something to start with
:

(early show)
1. (song title?)
2. Got A Mind To Travel (?)
3. (song title?)
[tape flip]
4. (song title?)
5. (song title?)
6. (song title?)[end cut]

All the tracks together add up to 86 minutes so I'm putting Side A on one disc and Side B
on another. You can do what you like.

There was an unexplained six second gap towards the end of track 3 so I did a one second f
ade out, one second fade in and deleted four seconds of the six second gap.

The venue for this show was The Cotati Cabaret in Cotati, CA. It was a small club that he
ld about 300 people. Cotati is a small town located about an hour north of San Francisco.
The Cabaret was an outgrowth of another venue that had been across the street called The
Inn of The Beginning, a resurrected version of which has since 'risen from the ashes' once
 or twice since the 80's.

Cotati is next to Sonoma State University, which was called Granola State University back
in the days. SSU is where the great recording of Old & In The Way with Ramblin' Jack Elli
ott opening was made in 1973. There is a great poster of the O&ITW show, my copy of which
 is long gone :<(

The Return of Alice Coltrane^M^MConcert Review by: Edward Kane^M^MVenue: Royce Hall, UCLA (Los Ang
eles, CA)^M^M^M2/18/06 - You can call a live performance many things: a gig, date, show, or what y
ou will. But Alice Coltrane's recent concert at UCLA's Royce Hall, her first U.S. public appeara
nce in three decades? Now, that was than an event. Mrs. Coltrane, playing piano, organ, and syn
thesizer, led a stellar quartet featuring son Ravi on tenor and soprano saxophone, the legendary R
eggie Workman on bass and drummer Trevor Lawrence. Providing ample support on the bill were local
heavyweights the Dwight Trible Quintet.^M^MAlice Coltrane left the music business at the end of t
he seventies to join an ashram. Her distinctive keyboards were not heard for more than twenty yea
rs by a general audience until a couple of very recent recordings, a guest turn on violinist Lili
Haydn's Light Blue Sun and her own Verve release Translinear Light. Those impressive efforts reve
aled her musical abilities still very much intact. But it is one thing to play in a studio and an
other to perform in front of a sold out audience. Accordingly, then, there was a palpable sense o
f curiosity in the hallway before the show about what Alice Coltrane would sound like after all th
ese years. There was every expectation of musical excellence, sure, but less certainty as to what
form it would take.^M^MDwight Trible's opening set started the night off on a very hip foot. Tri
ble's music is certainly indebted to the music of Mrs. Coltrane's late husband John, imbued with a
spiritual vibration that recalls in particular the later work of the saxophonist with his wife an
d Pharaoh Sanders, among others. The opening act at a concert is sometimes referred to as a 'warm
-up band' and vocalist Trible and his five-piece group certainly raised the crowd's temperature wi
th a set that included original music, songs dating back to Trible's tenure with the late Horace T
apscott, and a potent rendition of the standard "Wild is the Wind."^M^MAlice Coltrane did a little
bit of everything in her in nearly two hours on stage. The group opened up with some music from
and in tribute to the late John Coltrane, whose presence informed so much of the evening. These i
ncluded the Quartet-era piece "Crescent" as well as "Leo," one of the last things he ever recorded
. The ballad "Crescent" as well as another piece that followed a fairly straight blues progressio
n, both with Alice Coltrane seated at the piano, were interesting inclusions; Mrs. Coltrane's orig
inals draw heavily from Indian raga and avant-garde jazz, so hearing her and the band play pieces
in more traditional forms with such mastery and beauty established a type of credibility for them
as they went on to take the music into freer territory.^M^MNo saxophonist since Charlie Parker has
been more influential on the instrument than John Coltrane. He had his followers in life and has
spawned exponentially more since his death nearly forty years ago. One would image that this leg
acy has its burdensome aspects for his son Ravi as he follows in his father's footsteps, but he gi
ves every indication of bearing it well. Hearing him play the same instruments and in some cases
the same songs that his father made famous and really listening to the way he approached it, I was
surprised and impressed to hear him emerge as an original stylist in his own right. There was so
me of his father in his sometimes elongated phrasings, yet his tone was lighter and he tended to k
eep on-register. Actually, hearing his playing alongside his mother's, he seemed to be influenced
by both of them almost equally. Alice Coltrane, particularly on her solo organ pieces, displayed
an almost dizzying ability to string fast runs of notes together, and you could hear echoes of th
at in Ravi's playing.^M^MReggie Workman, who recorded with Coltrane, displayed the consummate skil
l on the bass that has made him a first-call player for generations of musicians. He was able to
match whatever the music demanded, anchoring well-defined pieces for other soloists or leading the
ensemble through more exploratory passages. Trevor Lawrence was a late replacement for Jeff Watt
s on drums, but he managed to fit in seamlessly with the group.^M^MThe final selection of the even
ing was an extended medley through several of John Coltrane's most famous pieces. It began with t
he high intensity of "Om" and also included an excerpt from "A Love Supreme." Each of the four mu
sicians got a solo feature, and Workman's revisitation on his original line from "Ole" was a parti
cular standout.^M^MPart of the magic of hearing music performed in person is the fact that you can
t know for certain what will happen in advance. Thats true in all kinds of music, but it
s particularly true when it comes to jazz. You can have an idea, sometimes a fairly good one,
but you dont know exactly what live music is going to sound like until it is played. When th
e artist in question hasn't played publicly for decades, as Alice Coltrane hadn't, it deepens the
sense of alchemy that much further. That enigmatic quality never quite left the performance, even
as the music unfolded. Such was the sublime nature of the concert, striking awe into the audienc
e and inviting them to delight in the mystery of music, of life.

Shawn Colvin - Return of the Cover Girl

Notes:

Return of the Cover Girl
Shawn Colvin

Happy New Year, fellow Dimers! Taking a short break from my ongoing "Nobody Sings Dylan Like Dy
lan" covers series, I thought I'd share this Shawn Colvin compilation I put together for my fri
end Bob for Christmas. I've always considered Colvin a very good songwriter, but a better singe
r, which is why "Cover Girl" is my favorite of her albums. But as you'll hear here, that album
only scratches the surface of the songs she has graced with her expressive vocals.

There are too many sources here for me to include lineages, but thanks to the original tapers a
nd uploaders for making this possible. I have done nothing but edited the ins and outs and norm
alized the levels (a not entirely successful undertaking, due to Shawn's performance style). Ma
ny of these are duets--see below for the recording details. The final four tracks, listed as bo
nus tracks, come from a much earlier recording, and the quality is far below the rest of the se
t--but the song choices are so compelling I decided to include them anyway. Artwork is included
. Enjoy!

 or 3rd gen.)

Transfer: Teac X-1000R > Macintosh with DigiDesign AudioMedia III card > Pro Tools (m
inor "nip & tuck" edits, normalization & tracking) > AIFF > xACT (FLAC level 8 files
with sector boundaries verified). md5 file created with checkSUM+.

There are some level changes and dropouts which have been improved wherever possible
but some rough spots remain. The overall sound quality is really decent though, and e
specially for an audience tape from 1969.

Enjoy & Share!

TRT 51:28

Ry Cooder - guitar, mandolin, vocals
Van Dyke Parks - keyboards
Jorge Calderon - bass
Jim Keltner - drums
Bobby King - tenor vocals
Willie Greene, Jr. - bass vocals

Since the original recording was made with Dolby B on, which adds 10dB boost to the high frequenci
es, yet the playback was done without Dolby B on (which would have cut the high frequencies by 10d
B) I took the liberty of applying some very slight noise (hiss) reduction using BIAS Sound Soap.
If anyone wants the recording without this processing please contact me and I'd be happy to oblige
. I usually am against offering original recordings with any processing but I was very light-hand
ed here.

I also recorded Ry Cooder at the Cabaret on August 5, 1984. About half the songs they did were th
e same. That will be a separate torrent TRT just under 90 minutes.

The venue for this show was The Cotati Cabaret in Cotati, CA. It was a small club that held about
300 people. Cotati is a small town located about an hour north of San Francisco.

Cotati is next to Sonoma State University, which was called Granola State University back in the d
ays. SSU is where the great 1973 recording of Old & In The Way with Ramblin' Jack Elliott opening
was made (which I and many other people have). There is a great poster of the O&ITW show, my cop
y of which is long gone :<(

EDITING NOTES

I transfered this to CDr 3-4 years ago from my master tape that I recorded when it w
as broadcast in 1991. Musically, it was an awesome show,
but it had a lot of tape hiss, which was a major distraction. Having just got Adobe
Audition 2.0, I decided to practice using the hiss
reduction filter and I'm really happy with the results. The vast majority of hiss ha
s been removed without negatively affecting the
nuances of the original source.

COMMENTS

Do I really need to sell this show? Oh, alright then I will. First, the sound qual
ity is superb as it's from my master cassette. It has
a wonderful, warm analog low end that will give your speakers a nice workout. Second
ly, I've seen this show circlating on quite
a few lists, but they are often incomplete - this is the complete FM broadcast. And
then there's the show itself, which is just killer -
especially with the 1970s Return to Forever medley kicking things off. And finally
- Frank Gambale :-)

Enjoy!

Offered here is a "remastered" version of the liberated bootleg "Get Emotional"

Lineage: SBD > ? > CD-R > EAC > SHN > Downloaded > xACT > AIFF (Edited) > xACT > FL

After listening to this show it became apparent that some editing was necessary to
enhance
and correct this great recording.

Here's a list of what has been changed:
1. Track breaks have been corrected (no longer chop into songs in progress).
2. Last track is complete (sharp fade at end corrected).

In addition, the sound quality has been enhanced in the following ways using Waves
audio plug-ins:
S1 Matrix - Subtle Improved Imaging
C1 Compressor/Gate - HF Enhanced
Q10 - HF Gain +1db

The sound is now more dynamic, giving equal weight to the upper dynamics that were
masked in
the original recording.

Notes:

Elvis Costello & The Attractions - September 1, 1996 - Mercer Arena Seattle WA

Ten years ago today, Elvis Costello appeared for the last time in concert in the Uni
ted States with the Attractions. While this wasn't known at the time, there are cryp
tic remarks made during the show, especially during 'You Bowed Down' and at the begi

again with this group (The final show was on September 15, 1996 and is available on
a well distributed bootleg 'No More Attractions')

I received this in a trade, so the lineage is unknown.

At long last, I am uploading this show for you all. This was kindly sent to me
by Martin F some time ago. This is a terrific show, both in terms of sound
and performance. The files are unchanged, other than a couple of track splits
using CD Wave. I created some artwork, which is included with the download.

In anticipation of Elvis' upcoming release, "River in Reverse" I hope to upload
numerous shows over the next several weeks - and of course, I urge others to do the
 same.
Enjoy and please go out and buy "River in Reverse" when it comes out in a couple of
 weeks!

Compilation (2004)

Compiled by: Jeff Bush
Taper: Various
Conversion: CDR > WAV (Nero 16 bit Stereo @ 44100 [1141kbps]) > FLAC
Sources: Various (mainly A to A+)

Notes: My latest collection of live songs from the best performance band around. Th
ese songs were either introduced first in San Francisco or were ONLY played in San
Francisco or have something to do with the city where it all started. At any rate,
the performances are all IN San Francsico at different venues. Appropriate, dont yo
u think? The collection spans 1992 to 2003 (somewhat chronologically) and everythin
g in between...San Francisco Style! Note: I broke one of my compilation rules on th
is one. I have repeated a track or tracks that are on other compilations. Too bad..
.these songs belong in San Francisco and on this compilation.

Cracker

"Cracker may be considered a somewhat traditional rock band (almost comparable to roots rock at times), yet singer/guitarist David Lowery's roots are anything but traditional, since he fronted the '80s alternative outfit Camper Van Beethoven. Shortly after Camper Van Beethoven called it quits in 1990, Lowery began demoing material along with guitarist Johnny Hickman and bassist Davey Faragher, eventually going by the name Cracker (several of these early demos would eventually surface under the title of David Lowery Demo Mixes). By 1991, the newly formed band had signed a recording contract with Virgin and enlisted the help of several drummers/percussionists (Jim Keltner, Rick Jaeger, and Phil Jones), issuing their self-titled debut in 1992. A year later, Cracker issued their best-known album, Kerosene Hat, which spawned the popular MTV/rock radio hit "Low." But by the time of their third release, 1996's The Golden Age, Faragher had been replaced with Bob Rupe, while the drum spot was occupied by a trio of players: Charlie Quintana, Eddie Bayers, and Johnny Hott.

After the album's supporting tour wrapped up, Lowery briefly concentrated on projects outside the band, producing such artists as Joan Osborne, Lauren Hoffman, Magnet, Fighting Gravity, and Sparklehorse (all at his Sound of Music recording studio in Richmond, VA), and co-producing the Counting Crows along with former Camper Van Beethoven producer Dennis Herring. Lowery also found the time to co-star in director Eric Drilling's independent film River Red (also composing the film's score) and appeared in another film, director Matt Leutwyler's This Space Between Us.

By the end of the decade, Cracker seemed to have settled on a somewhat permanent lineup as drummer Frank Funaro and keyboardist/accordion player Kenny Margolis joined up with Lowery, Hickman, and Rupe, issuing 1998's Gentleman's Blues. During the early 21st century, Cracker continued to tour and even enlisted the help of several of Lowery's former Camper Van Beethoven members on select dates (bassist Victor Krummenacher, guitarist/violinist Jonathan Segel, and guitarist Greg Lisher). They issued a live set in 2001, Traveling Apothecary Show & Revue, while a year later Cracker issued their fifth and sixth studio albums overall, Forever (2002) and a rowdy set of country covers called Countrysides in 2003. The group has also been the subject of a pair of compilations over the years: 1994's The Virgin Years (credited to Camper Van Beethoven/Cracker) and 2000's double-disc Garage d'Or. 2006 saw the release of Get on with It: The Best of Cracker on CD and DVD, the same year the group issued Greenland, with help from guest artists David Immerglück and Mark Linkous." - Greg Prato

Cramps - Rock'n'Roll in Off'n'Back, Offenbach, 1990

Notes:

Here is another one out of my old tape box. The Cramps live in Offenbach 1990. I bought this as a
tape 15 years ago. This one seems to be a vinyl rip of the "Creatures From The Black Leather Lagoo
n" or the "Songs The Cramps Taught Us" double vinyl bootleg with loveless artwork. So i decided to
put some creativity into it and named it "Rock'n'Roll in Off'n'Bach". Maybe only german speaking
people will understand the little kind of creative kick which is included in the title. Made an ar
twork for myself, because i don't like the artwork of the vinyl bootlegs. So, here we go:

Robert Cray

Robert Cray Band w/ SRV - Club Redux, Dallas, TX, Jan. 21, 1987, FM

Notes:

The Robert Cray Band with SRV
Venue: Club Redux Dallas, Texas
Date: January 21, 1987
Taper: Unknown, but was originally aired live by Q102 radio
Source: FM Broadcast / Soundboard!
Transfer: CD-R from trade > EAC > FLAC Level 8
Sound Quality: A-/A in my estimation. Just a few slight disruptions that shouldn't
take away from your listening enjoyment

Okay guys, to steal a line from Letterman "wake the kids and phone the neighbors"!
Here's a show that's near and dear to my heart having grown up in Dallas, TX liste
ning to KZEW (98FM) and Q102 radio. I can fondly remember hearing this come down l
ive on Q102 the night in question as well as the many times the station replayed a
song or two in heavy rotation.

If I may set the scene, Strong Persuader was gaining air-time across the country (o
r at least it was in Dallas) and in my opinion that album represents the pinnacle o
f Cray's career. From the moment that track one starts you can feel the electricit
y in the air and it's clear that Bob and the band are charged up. Add to the fact
that 'young' Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughan was in attendance and sat in on the last three
songs and you have a recipe for a blockbuster evening. These fine musicians did no
t disappoint.

Some personal observations of the show, please. First, db.etree.org incorrectly li
sts the location as Houston. Hearing it live over Dallas radio should be enough to
convince you. Having spent a foggy evening or two at Club Redux should also cemen
t the location. If that still isn't enough, listen for the mention of "I'm back he
re in Dallas" during 'Phone Booth' (track 11).

Secondly, this next point has always made me laugh and I'll relay it to the best of
my ability. At the end of the third song (the swingin' 'T-Bone Shuffle') Cray men
tions that "we're recording tonight for K-102" which illicits many of the patrons t
o correct him on the radio station call letters - it's Q-102. Bob quickly remedies
his gaff by uttering "Q-102" repeatedly. The amusing part for this Dallas native i
s how the station turned Cray's blunder in to an instant Q102 promo that was played
a million times over. To the savvy listener the edit (removal of K102) was obviou
s. This was no doubt spearheaded by the egocentric and self serving afternoon drive
time DJ, Readbeard (host of the ubiquitous "In The Studio"). Never has an individ
ual been in love with his own voice and contrived laughter more than Redbeard. Fin
ally even more hilarious is when Cray excuses his error by stating that "I don't sp
eak too good English. I'm from the West Coast"!

In my estimation, song highlights from the night were 'Still Around' (check out the
incredible vocals) and 'Porch Light'. Oh, and if this version of 'Playin' In The
Dirt' doesn't do it for ya, you need medical attention. Listen to the crowd pandem
onium at the end of that tune!

As advertised, SRV sits in on the last two songs and encore with his trusty #1. Wh
ile there aren't any Stevie songs played, you can't miss his licks in the backgroun
d. The impromptu 'Cray / SRV Jam' is indeed tasty.

Part of my enjoyment of this site are the various stories surrounding shows like th
is. Hope I didn't bore you with my recollections of this magical night in Dallas.
Please have fun listening and as always don't convert to MP3 or sell. That's not
cool.

DWP

OK - This is my first try at this, but wanted to share this great MC show and thank
everybody who shares here! Wasn't at this show, but attended the next night in Camd
en, Maine - great! Covers galore - a lounge set for their show at the Mohegan Sun C
asino previously & a "George block" to recognize the passing of George Harrison...Y
ou might want to skip the tuning and noodling on the first track of both discs but I
included them and left the soundcheck (Spirit In the Sky) at the end of Disc 2...EN

Hard to imagine a better closing night act for Bumbershoot than Crowded House, who we
re on tour in support of what is, for my money, their best album, Woodface, released
two months earlier. Joining the band for this leg of the tour, as he did on the album
, was Neil's brother, Tim, which explains the inclusion of two Split Enz songs in the
set: "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" and "I See Red."

JEMS got in the building early so we had our pick of spots, choosing, as we often did
in those days, a row of seats about 1/3 of the way back from the stage on the side w
here we could rest the long (about 2.5 feet) shotgun mics on a ledge/railing in front
of us. We bought the dictionary-sized Panasonic DAT recorder in 1989 and took it whe
rever we could.

The resulting tape sounds pretty darn good. Samples below. This was one of the most e
ntertaining and lively CH shows I ever saw, in front of 14,000+ in Seattle.

Thanks to Ron Schmitt here is the recently surfaced
and very wonderful pair of CSN&Y Bill Halverson Soundboard
shows! Ron wrote: I have the perfect 06/04/70 show - both
discs 1 and 2 are complete and nearly flawless. However,
unfortunately all known copies of 06/05/70 are missing
the first four tracks of the acoustic set. I have been
researching these two shows non-stop for the past month
when I first got ahold of them. I've backtracked them to
a deadend - all very mysterious,...where did they come
from. Most folks are totally unaware of their existence!
I believe they were leaked by someone close to the Neil
camp.

Coverart was also created by Ron Schmitt.

This show was treed with the 1970, June 4th. recording in
summer 2003 as TOTW at Rustlist and Human Highway

  Two complete shows.
I got this from the hempsall tree a couple of years ago. These are very good, com
plete audience recordings with no glitches that I've noticed. They sound low-genera
tion, and there is no tape hiss. The sound is a little "distant" but still quite go
od for that era. If you're a CSNY fan, these shows are a nice addition to your coll
ection. This is from a boot called "Good Evening, Boston." Artwork is included.

  Enjoy,

  Clyde the Camel
