Before heading out on an arena tour in support of the new album, the band played three unannounced show s at the Fillmore. Sometimes a bit rough, the 52's came together over the three nigh ts and by the last show were raging. During this third and final show the band melte d the crowd during one of those "you had to be there"!!

Bad Livers - Two Bad Livers, Jovita's, Austin, TX, Nov. 10, 1994
Notes:
"two bad livers" danny barnes: electric guitar, national steel mark rubin: stand-up acoustic bass mike maddox: accordian november 10, 1994 11/10/94 jovita's; austin, texas no set list time: 95:03 from way back (well i guess its not that way back)in 1994 at jovita's (a tiny and killer mexican food place) in austin. ralph was gone somewhere, but i think it was before he left the band. so mike maddox sat in on accordian. so it was just "two bad livers" (at one point, mark rubin asks rhetorically, "what is the name of our band tonight?".) and that is how i labeled the tape. it was outside in the back and it was freezing cold. the really interesting thing about the show is that danny's banjo was being repaired so he played half the show on ELECTRIC GUITAR!!! and the other half on a national steel. so its a really interesting mix/sound. plus i was sitting right in front of the band and the sound is REALLY clear and nice. The Band
The Band - Unreleased Columbia Album, 1990
THE BAND - Unreleased Columbia Album (1990) + filler (also known as Tombstone) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From BigO magazine, August 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "No one lasts forever Who would want to? But you're too soon gone" The Band played their last waltz together in 1978(sic) with an all-star concert that one w ould have thought used up all their desire for the big time. They went their separate ways with Levon Helm forming the RCO Allstars, Rick Danko pursuing a short-lived solo career w hile Garth Hudson and Richard Manuel did the sensible thing of touring together to play th ose old favorites. Robbie Robertson, of course couldn't get enough of the spotlight and fo llowed Martin Scorsese into the movies to make soundtracks. By the mid-'80s The Band had r egrouped minus Robertson, to start touring again. Then they decided to get back into the s tudios to record an album. Since Robertson wrote the lion's share of The Band's music, they needed a producer to help them along. We've not had the good fortune of reading The Band's bio but around 1990 or 1 991, they linked up with pop writer Jules Shear, who wrote Cyndi Lauper's hit All Through The Night. He was a sensitive songwriter who could write interesting material. He was also a Sony recording artist, the new label The Band had signed to. At least 11 tracks were recorded with Jules Shear who sings and writes a fair amount but a pparently the album was rejected by The Band's new label, Sony Music. As far as we can tel l the title song Tombstone and Never Again Or Forever were written by Jules Shear. The out take "Tombstone" was originally recorded in 1991 by The Band with an amazing vocal from Ri ck Danko. However, this song was also considered for inclusion on the Band's finally released album Jericho, which arrived in 1993 on the indie Pyramid label. The only song that survived the se 1990-'91 sessions was Rick Danko's Too Soon Gone, a sweet farewell song for Richard Man uel included on Jericho. The version here is different. Tombstone was hardly contemporary in feel except perhaps for the urban r 'n b of Money Whi pped with its unusual spoken interludes. Mostly Rick Danko's superb vocals marked the way back to the Band of the old. Songs like All Creation, Too Soon Gone and the title track ha d their old sound and that rustic feeling of time stood still. But producer Jules Shear's presence was also profound. It sounds like him handling vocals on at least four of the nin e songs. Finally, an album without Robbie Robertson or Richard Manuel was probably not an album Son y wanted to release. Tombstone remains in somebody's vault with only Too Soon Gone release d on 1993's Jericho and High Price of Love emerging on 1996's High On The Hog. The version s here were all recorded much earlier. Tracks Tracks 1, 3, 7 are sung by Rick Danko Tracks 5, 8 are sung by Levon Helm Tracks 2, 4, 6 , 9 sound like Jules Shear singing in front of The Band 1. Tombstone, Tombstone (Jules Shear) 2. River Of Honey 3. All Creation 4. Baby Don't You Cry No More 5. The High Price Of Love (This song later appeared on High On The Hog) 6. Long Ways To Tennessee 7. Too Soon Gone (This song later appeared on Jericho) 8. Money Whipped 9. Never Again Or Forever (Jules Shear) You Don't Know Me (Sung by the late Richard Manuel live in Tokyo, Sept 1, 1983 with The Ba nd) (NOT INCLUDED IN THIS TORRENT) The Band - Tombstone - 2005 - Naughty Dog filler: The Rockin' Revols The Rockin' Revols from Stratford, Ontario, were Richard Manuel's first group. Richard joi ned them as pianist and lead singer in 1957, together with his friend and drummer Jimmy Wi nkler. Other members were John Till and Garth Picot on guitar, Ken Kalmusky on bass and singer Do ug Rhodes. Only a few demo recordings with the Revols exist. Richard Manuel and John Till wrote "My Eternal Love" in Richard's living room in 1957. It was recorded at CKSL Radio studios in London Ontario. There are two more songs from that session., a tune Richard wrote called "Promise Yourself " and an instrumental Richard played of a rock and roll version of the classical song "Lie bestraum" Note: with the Revols songs there are also interviews with numerous people all about Richa rd and the Revols. there are 4 songs listed here, i believe Liebestraum makes 2 appearances. enjoy this torrent!! please share freely!! please do not encode to MP3 except for personal use in those infernal IPOD machines.

Syd Barrett
Syd Barrett - Beyond Rhyme Nor Reason
This is the traclist for ths 6CD set as noted on the back cover. As you will see, th ere are some duplicates, sometimes labeled differently, also some mislabeled and oth er questionable sources. All in all this compilation is still interesting in several aspects. Firstly because it does include some previously unreleased tracks (seemingly genuine). Secondly bec ause this is a valuable alternative to the "Have You Got It Yet?" marathonian series which tends to be a little bit pointless after the first few volumes. The sound quality overall is nice, of course some source are the same crappy ones as usually, but others are genuine upgrades. Here and there some NR is noticeable but nothing too bad. It might have been a definitive sreies if all of it was free of dup es and mislabels. But on the other hand this looks quite complete. I don't know the origin of this bootleg (I say bootleg cause it's a silver pressed c ommercial release), but the only few traders I found having it are Japanese. And tha t's where I got it from, some Japanese trader who made CDR copies of his silver CD's . So lineage would be something like Original Silvers>CDR(1)>flac (flac'ed by me). - Furry Animal (zoulouy@hotmail.com) DISC 1 001. 01 - Lucy Leave (Oct 1965 Acetate) [2:52] 002. 02 - King Bee (Oct 1965 Acetate) [3:01] 003. 03 - Beat Farmers
Beat Farmers - Blue Note, Boulder, CO, SBD (2 discs)
The Beat Farmers 1985-xx-xx (possibly April 24) Early show The Blue Note Boulder, Colorado, U.S. These shows were torrented here in October 2005 by grner1, and stayed on the tracker until December 2005. At that time, the exact date was in question, and I don't know if it was ever resolved. But these do appear on some trad elists as April 24. These are the original flac files, except I've renamed with song titles and added flac tags. Soundboard recording Transfer info: Maxell XLII cassettes with Dolby B on > Nakamichi Dragon > Macintosh with Digidesign AudioMedia III card > Pro Tools > CD > Toast audio extraction > xAct [Flac files (level 8) with sector boundaries verified]. Very good sounding recording from low gen. cassette source. There are some mix adjustments in the first song and a noisy volume fader can be heard in a few spots. Early show 01. tuning 0:29 02. Never Goin' Back Here is the final reunion show with all three of the Beat Farmers guitarists. They only did a few shows with this line-up and this is the second show played at 4th & B. The first gig I taped from the soundboard and wasn't all th at happy with the mix. This time around I went with my mic. setup and came out with much better results. For start ers, the band was better rehearsed and played more tighter than the last gig. They were the headliners on this nig ht (they opened for the Blasters last time) and had the Paladins open up for them. The mic was up on a stand direc tly in front of the soundboard, about eight feet up. The crowd was pushed up close near the stage so there was a n ice barrier between the mic. and any chatter. No editing or e.q. was applied to this recording at all. Artwork is included. SLIMEBALL WARNING!! These songs are the property of the Beat Farmers and/or their respective songwriters. These re cordings are in no way ever to be sold or used commercially without their permission. Failure to heed this warning will result in the shit being kicked out of you. - Dylan Edwards 7-23-2008

AMG Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine
It was inevitable that the constant grind of touring, writing, promoting, and recording would grate on the Beatles, but the weariness of Beatles for Sale comes as something of a shock. Only five months before, the group released the joyous A Hard Day's Night. Now, they sound beaten, worn, and, in Lennon's case, bitter and self-loathing. His opening trilogy ("No Reply," "I'm a Loser," "Baby's in Black") is the darkest sequence on any Beatles record, setting the tone for the album. Moments of joy pop up now and again, mainly in the forms of covers and the dynamic "Eight Days a Week," but the very presence of six covers after the triumphant all-original A Hard Day's Night feels like an admission of defeat or at least a regression. (It doesn't help that Lennon's cover of his beloved obscurity "Mr. Moonlight" winds up as arguably the worst thing the group ever recorded.) Beneath those surface suspicions, however, there are some important changes on Beatles for Sale, most notably Lennon's discovery of Bob Dylan and folk-rock. The opening three songs, along with "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party," are implicitly confessional and all quite bleak, which is a new development. This spirit winds up overshadowing McCartney's cheery "I'll Follow the Sun" or the thundering covers of "Rock & Roll Music," "Honey Don't," and "Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!," and the weariness creeps up in unexpected places "Every Little Thing," "What You're Doing," even George's cover of Carl Perkins' "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby" leaving the impression that Beatlemania may have been fun but now the group is exhausted. That exhaustion results in the group's most uneven album, but its best moments find them moving from Merseybeat to the sophisticated pop/rock they developed in mid-career.

A note about different artwork:
As told above, the good Dr. never did a remaster of the Parlophone edition of Beatles For Sale.
He only used an MFSL rip, but he has done artwork for both. Included here is the original
Parlophone cover art as well as the MFSL cover art.

Beatles - Sgt. Pepper MFSL UHQR
Notes:
What is a UHQR? info here: http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/archive/index.php/t-37010.html Transcript below: Steve w07-20-2004, 10:37 PM How much better were MFSL's UHQR's? What was it that actually made them better. Weren't they even $50 when they were still making them? That was a lot of $$$ back then. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -=Rudy=-07-20-2004, 11:29 PM IIRC, the main differences were heavier vinyl, and special packaging. Sound-wise, I don't know...never owned one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ezio gallino07-21-2004, 09:37 AM they were an experimental format of Mofi well sounding but too expensive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dob07-21-2004, 09:57 AM The best (digital) version of Sgt. Peppers that I've heard is a needle drop CD-R made from the UHQR vinyl. It definitely beats the needle drop taken from the regular Mofi vinyl. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dob07-21-2004, 09:58 AM I don't know...never owned one. Me neither, and I bought a lot of Mofi vinyl. Just too darn expensive! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TommyTunes07-21-2004, 10:20 AM The best (digital) version of Sgt. Peppers that I've heard is a needle drop CD-R made from the UHQR vinyl. It definitely beats the needle drop taken from the regular Mofi vinyl. At one point I owned ever UHQR, all except Sgt. Pepper are totally dispensible. Sgt is without a doubt the best version I've ever heard. The dynamics and detail are not to believed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- visprashyana07-21-2004, 12:12 PM I actually had the chance to listen to a MFSL copy of Cat Stevens "Tea for Tillerman" on the normal MFSL vinyl and the UHQR. I did not expect to hear much of a difference, but as you can imagine that was not the case. Obviously, the tonal characteristics were very similar and the amount of detail was close, but different. I made my observations and then had my other half listen to both versions, as women have better hearing than men. The difference was very noticeable and worth it if you want the best of the best. If one of these lp's are one of your favorites, you may wish to buy one at $70 to $100 if you have the extra money. The best way to describe the difference was that the UHQR was much more complete, more coherent than the normal version. I find this in many different audiophile systems. You can listen to a system and all the sounds are present, but they are not complete or put together correctly. The system that has coherence actually sounds like a band playing instead of 100 different sounds. The UHQR had a coherence and impact that was much better than the normal pressing. I would recommend it to anyone who finds one that is somewhat reasonably priced. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- rpdugan07-21-2004, 01:50 PM I own them all. I agree with these Pepper comments, BTW... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ed hughes07-21-2004, 03:04 PM How much better were MFSL's UHQR's? What was it that actually made them better. Weren't they even $50 when they were still making them? That was a lot of $$$ back then. Having owned a few of these, Sgt. pepper,I robot ,Tea for Tillerman, Crime of the century,I can honestly say they were the best vinyl copies i have ever owned. Alas,I had to sell them in a moment of financial distress. ( Damn) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- grx807-21-2004, 03:43 PM Im dying to listen the the Sgt. Pepper UHQR..even a needle drop. It´s such a good album oh my god The Beatles... Sorry. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dob07-21-2004, 05:54 PM ...as women have better hearing than men. That's what I've been told...what I can't figure out is why this hobby seems to be dominated by men. Are we trying to compensate for our deficiencies? :) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- thxdave07-22-2004, 08:54 AM They were absolutely superb for lack of surface noise, warp, etc. and I miss mine every day. I had most of them but, as Ed said above, I had to let ALL my vinyl go....dang. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ezio gallino07-22-2004, 09:30 AM Too bad they were just 8, even I heard rumours about an UHQR abbey road test pressing...regarding pepper there's people who says that NIMBUS supercut edition sounded even better and is even rarer.( goes for $1500 on ebay--crazy money) ezio -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dob07-22-2004, 09:33 AM Has anyone else compared UHQR vs regular MFSL titles? I'd be interested in your comments. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ed hughes07-24-2004, 06:55 AM Has anyone else compared UHQR vs regular MFSL titles? I'd be interested in your comments. The titles I owned were consistently better than their regular counterparts. Especially Sgt. pepper . (The rest of the album was filled out with "Yellow Submarine," "All You Need Is Love," and a George Martin score that held little appeal to rock listeners.) What's more, the four new tracks were little more than pleasant throwaways that had been recorded during 1967 and early 1968. These aren't all that bad; "All Together Now" is a kiddieish singalong, "Hey Bulldog" has some mild Lennon nastiness, and Harrison's "It's All Too Much" is highlighted by some tidal waves of feedback guitar. It would have been far better value if it had been released as a four-song EP (an idea the Beatles even considered at one point, with the addition of a bonus track in "Across the Universe," but ultimately discarded). ******************** A note about the good Dr. To all those who think these are commercial releases or waiting for the official CD releases. Dr. Ebbets was/is one of the biggest Beatles collectors. He purchased all of the original Capitol/Parlophone & US/UK (and some Mexican & German) LP's back in the 60's. He did not open them until 2000 when he decided to rip all of them on his pristine stereo equipment. Much better than the infamous Millennium Remasters. Included in his 100+ titles are interview albums, live albums, collections of rarities & outtakes, unreleased albums (the first us concert, get back - both versions, all three versions of rubber soul) and albums that differ from each other in track line-ups or alternate versions (the uk and us editions differ from each other greatly, mixing-wise and track-wise) the mono LPs were never issued on cd (except for the 1st 2 (??) lp's/cd's) and the only titles (stereo) that were issued on cd (worldwide) were the uk editions. Secondly, the sound quality is many times better than the cd issues by Capitol in the mid 80's, as those used 2nd or 3rd generation master tapes, where-as the original vinyl issues were from the original master tapes at the time that the vinyl was made from. The other exception to this rule are the MFSL remasters which were done by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs which in the late 70s and 80s they got a hold of the original masters from their most popular UK albums and remastered them using the highest fidelity possible onto 180 gram limited-edition virgin vinyl that was very very expensive (roughly about $40 - $80 a title in US funds at the release date) and MFSL has yet to release their Beatles remasters on cd as well, but again the good Dr. had unopened, unplayed copies of these as well (dont confuse the Dr. Ebbetts MFSL's with just the regular MFSL rips kicking around, those are inferior). So essentially all of these are NOT commercially available in this form. The fidelity is much better, the packaging was made to replicate the original 60's vinyl. About the legality of these remasters: if Capitol/Parlophone would get off their ass and re-issue the 100+ titles or remaster the basic catalogue than most Beatle collectors will not share them any longer, until they do, most will share for the world, as any Beatle collector knows, these titles are essentially THE holy grail for Beatles fans. For more reference material on the "legality" of this issue, please visit: www.bootlegzone.com ********************** Two different sets of artwork are available: The "MFSL" version and the "original british" version.

Tim Berne
"Alto and baritone saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Tim Berne was born in Syracuse, NY, in 1954, and purchased his first alto saxophone while attending Lewis and Clark College in Oregon. A fan of R&B and Motown music, he was not particularly interested in jazz until he heard saxophonist Julius Hemphill's album Dogon A.D. Immediately inspired by Hemphill's ability to project R&B soulfulness in a creative jazz context, Berne traveled to New York City in 1974 and located the saxophonist. Berne took saxophone lessons from Hemphill and also became involved in managing the elder musician's rather infrequent concert appearances. A mentor-apprentice relationship evolved, providing Berne encouragement for his musical endeavors as well as lessons in how to operate independently. Hemphill, founder of the World Saxophone Quartet and a major figure in the 1970s New York loft jazz scene, died in 1995 leaving a considerable imprint on creative music but with his greatest promise unfulfilled. To this day, Berne cites Hemphill as a significant and continuing influence on his work.
In 1979, Berne founded Empire, his first record label, and released four albums over the next four years. These recordings featured a number of musicians who had -- or would soon have -- stellar reputations in creative jazz circles, including Paul Motian, John Carter, Olu Dara, Vinny Golia, Alex Cline, Nels Cline, and Ed Schuller. Berne's efforts attracted the interest of Italian record producer Giovanni Bonandrini, whose Soul Note label released the saxophonist's next two albums, The Ancestors in 1983 and Mutant Variations in 1984. Drummer Motian and bassist Schuller from the Empire recordings are featured on the Soul Note releases, which also introduce trumpeter Herb Robertson as a new member of the Berne coterie. Robertson first met Berne at a 1981 loft jam session and would figure prominently in many of the saxophonist's later and most successful recordings. Notably, Berne cites Mutant Variations as his first album in which compositions were written specifically for the musicians involved. Previously, he had written material without knowing exactly who would be available to record it.
With six albums as a leader to his credit, Berne then landed a major-label deal with Columbia, which released Fulton Street Maul in 1987 and Sanctified Dreams in 1988. The former album includes cellist Hank Roberts and then-ECM guitarist Bill Frisell, along with Berne and drummer Alex Cline. Sanctified Dreams features a larger ensemble with Berne joined again by Roberts and Robertson, as well as bassist Mark Dresser and drummer Joey Baron. This quintet afforded Berne the opportunity for some of his most complex and focused music to date. With Sanctified Dreams' loosening and tightening rhythms, spiky melodic lines, and attention to textural detail, Berne charted a direction that he would continue to explore even more deeply on subsequent recordings.
Not a bastion of the avant-garde, Columbia issued only two recordings and Berne's relationship with the label was over. German producer Stefan Winter then signed Berne to his JMT label and from 1989 until 1995, the saxophonist was given free rein to pursue a number of challenging projects. These resulted in two recordings by the collaborative trio Miniature, featuring Berne, Roberts, and Baron; Fractured Fairy Tales, Berne's first JMT recording as a leader; and Pace Yourself and Nice View by Tim Berne's Caos Totale. The two Caos Totale recordings, released in 1991 and 1993, featured an extended ensemble of Berne with Robertson, Dresser, trombonist Steve Swell, drummer Bobby Previte, and French guitarist Marc Ducret. (Nice View also includes British musician Django Bates on keyboards and E flat peck horn.) The Caos Totale recordings reveal a mature and self-assured Berne with an instantly identifiable saxophone style and a compositional approach moving toward extended-form pieces of extraordinary scope. Diminuitive Mysteries (Mostly Hemphill), Berne's heartfelt tribute to his friend and mentor, was also released by JMT in 1993, only two years before the gravely ill Hemphill died of a heart condition. That Hemphill was pleased by this homage remains a source of great satisfaction to Berne.
Berne's career was about to move into a new phase marked by the formation of an important new band and a second new label. In 1991, Berne had recorded a session led by bassist Michael Formanek for Formanek's Extended Animation, released the following year by Enja. In 1992, the two musicians recorded again, this time in a collaborative trio with drummer Jeff Hirshfield from the Extended Animation ensemble. The result was Loose Cannon, released by Soul Note in 1993, a recording that reveals Berne and Formanek to be a particularly compatible reeds-and-bass team. Berne became interested in leading his own trio with Formanek as the bassist, and chose Jim Black, a recent arrival to New York City from Boston, as the drummer. Berne soon decided that a quartet would serve as a better outlet for his "composing jones" and following a recommendation from Black added tenor saxophonist and clarinetist Chris Speed to the group. (Speed, like Black, was originally from Seattle and studied in Boston before making the jump to New York.) Berne now had a new working quartet, which he named Bloodcount. Still under contract to JMT, the quartet headed to Paris in September 1994 and joined up with guitarist Ducret for four nights of concerts to be recorded live. In 1995, the results appeared on a trilogy of JMT CDs, Lowlife, Poisoned Minds, and Memory Select. On the CDs, the members of Bloodcount stretch out with individual and collective improvisations that are slowly drawn back into unison structures which retain Berne's skewed R&B sensibility. Extended-form compositions, now stretched to the 30- to 50-minute range, are filled with episodes of gradually escalating tension with sometimes intentionally muted, rather than explosive, resolution.
The Paris concert trilogy of recordings received considerable acclaim, but the JMT label was soon to disappear, taking Berne's recordings out of circulation. JMT had a distribution deal with Polygram, which after purchasing the label decided to shut it down. Berne's entire back catalogue of JMT recordings was deleted and much of the music he had written and performed during the early '90s was gone. "It's like being erased," he commented to the New York Times.
In characteristic fashion, Berne moved forward and established his second independent label, Screwgun, which has since become the major outlet for his work. With guerilla recording tactics, plain brown packaging, and wild and scribbly Steve Byram graphic art, the Screwgun CDs present Berne at his roughest and edgiest. Bloodcount Unwound, the label's inaugural release in 1996, is a three-CD energy blast recorded live by the core quartet (minus Ducret) at club dates in Berlin and Ann Arbor, MI. A slew of additional recordings followed during the remainder of the 1990s, including Discretion and Saturation Point by Bloodcount and Visitation Rites and Please Advise by Paraphrase, Berne's improvising trio with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Tom Rainey. Berne continues to appear on other labels as well. I Think They Liked It Honey by the Big Satan trio of Berne, Ducret, and Rainey was released on Stefan Winter's Winter & Winter label in 1997; other recent CDs include Ornery People by the Berne and Formanek duo on Little Brother Records, Cause and Reflect by Berne and Hank Roberts on Level Green, and Melquiades by the Italian band Enten Eller (with Berne as guest alto saxophonist) on Splasc(h) Records. At the June 2000 Bell Atlantic Jazz Festival in New York City, Berne premiered two new ensembles, both of which feature former Detroit-area keyboardist and Roscoe Mitchell collaborator Craig Taborn, along with members of Big Satan. Shell Game was released by the Hard Cell trio the following year, and 2002 and 2003 saw the release of Science Friction and The Sublime And by Berne's Science Friction quartet. The year 2004 saw Berne release Hard Cell Live on Screwgun and the issue of Souls Saved Hear, a new studio recording from Big Satan on Thirsty Ear. Recorded in Brooklyn, NY and Ann Arbor, MI, Hard Cell Live arrived later that year, followed by three Live in Paris collections (Lowlife, Poisoned Minds and Bloodcount) in 2005.
Tim Berne is an important member of the New York City creative music community whose contributions invite comparison to those of fellow New Yorker John Zorn. Like Zorn, Berne asserts a strong and singular musical personality throughout his diverse and frequently absorbing works, he has influenced other and often younger creative improvising musicians, and he knows his way around the music business. The last attribute has been particularly useful to Berne, who has been quick to establish independent record labels if necessary to get his music recorded and released to the public. Not beholden to major-label sensibilities, Berne has been free to explore a singular and uncompromising musical path." - Dave Lynch

They are situated at the e nd of the tracks except when the music begins and he is talking : then you get him ta lking... The guy is just great, doing a crazy stuff for jazz on France Inter. But he talks his head off, sometimes. Fades in and out used for the beginning of the concert, just before the news break, t he encore and for the very end. Enjoy! Bogshead
Bogshead - The Old Cock, Halifax, 1985
Notes:
This is another early Bogshed live set currently in circulation - date is uncertain but is known to be 1985 before the first EP was recorded in the middle of August that year. The gig has been mentioned a couple of times in interviews and correspondance as it took place whilst the venue was being burgled! In an interview in the NME dat ed 10th August 1985 Phil Hartley sez.. "When we played up North recently the pub went wild and we thought, God this is so dead cheap, so as we neared the end of the set I looked over to the barman to see if he wanted us to stop. He said, No, keep playing! Keep playing! He said, If you don't play another number, I'm not going to pay you. So we played any old rubbish, and 11 came, and then ten past, and I thought, t his is odd. Afterwards, it turned out that the safe in the place had been blown and someone had pinched the brewery's money. But to do that, you had to kick down a door, and you couldn't do t hat unless there was a lot of noise like a band playing! So we reckon it was an inside job, and we h elped innocently in a sort of robbery like. But we did have to get the CID to force the landlord to pay us..." Mike Bryson has since confirmed that this tape is of that gig. This is probabaly the best quality live set I've heard, a soundboard and very early generation cassette. It came to me through the kindness of a top Bogshed man a few years ago now - cheer s Rhodri. It includes the awesome 'Budgies', in my opinion the finest Bogshed tune never given an officia l release. Now, does anyone know if 'Elvis Bung' ever made it onto tape?.... any earlier issues on vinyl or CD! The only sad thing is the cut in STAY, but it probably comes fr
om the master tape? The excellent sound quality and the fact that this is the complete concert, ma
kes this CD a true must!

A sync error was reported at the end of the first disc, track 4, but the copy reported ok with a "track quality" of 99.8% and no audible problem. All other tracks ripped perfectly, with track quality of 100% and no errors reported. A copy of the EAC rip logs is included for the curious. A FLAC fingerprint file is also included. The original tracks were untitled on the disc and contained multiple songs. The multi-song/track format is retained. There was no artwork associated with this disc. The label was plain text, as was the accompanying cue sheet booklet. Track/song listin gs are from the cue sheet booklet. The booklet gave only the date and location of the interview tracks. Those two tracks are titled here based on content. This show was distributed on a promotional basis by Austereo/MCM as part of the "Coca Cola Planet Live" series. It has certainly had so me professional post production massaging and the set list may be reordered. Regardless, the quality of the sound is first rate and true to its source. Artwork prepared on 9.11.06 and included in torrent. some notes on this show. Reason for re-tracking- As with all these Pre-FM Broadcast discs, the songs and commercials all run together in huge "tracks".By removing the commercials, this now fits on one disc.i re-tracked the songs from 2-4 song "blocks" to individual tracks. this Was originally broadcast in 1997 (in support of EARTHLING). that broadcast DID N OT CONTAIN several songs (Blue Jean and STARMAN come to mind). It DID CONTAIN YOUNG AM ERICANS (which is not present on this re-broadcast,presented in support of HEATHEN). if demand warrants, i can upload the post-FM, 97 version at a later date. This torrent is the PRE-FM 2002 version. I love the fact that DAVID, (once again) has added a raving western audience into the mix. Yes, i know a huge multitude attended the Phoenix Festival, but anyone who has watched the 1990 NHK video, or listened to the concert audio, (both torrented here on DIME) will immediately recognize that the reserved, JAPANESE audience has been repla ced with a screaming throng of adorers! (i suspect that the Nassau colliseum broadcast in 1976 was also doctored with this em belishment.i KNOW that it was used to create a "false" live version of DIAMOND DOGS ( broadcast on the GLASS SPIDER SPECIAL) in 1987. Trust me, it does wonders to increase GOD-LIKE perception to the listener. my favorit e live bowie feeds all use this howling mob! Keywords-Adrian Belew-1990- (for my CRIMSON Pals) all thanks should go to GOBLIN (the original uploader).Besides creating artwork,I mer ely edited it to conform to DIME standards, and fit on one 74 min. CDR. ENJOY!

The main cassettes used for this recording had tape breaks at about 46 minutes, losing about 10 to 30 seconds of music. An alternate circulating recording downloaded from Dimeadozen.org has complete music through the tape break, but stops before the end of the music at about 50 minutes. On each set, a piece from the alternate DaD recording was spliced in to cover the tape gap. A pitch adjustment of about 2 percent on the DaD version was necessary. The track breaks generally reflect the start of new compositions.

Bromberg mentions that he won't be seeing the audience again, a reference to dissolving the band in the Fall of 1980. Brombe rg also mentions that the show is on Dick Fegy's birthday. Dick Fegy was born on M ay 8, 1950. So, this show must have been played on May 8, 1980. That date is conf irmed by http://www.davidbromberg.net/dbbase.html http://www.davidbromberg.net/80.htm omits Catskill Serenade, and includes Turnpike > Rover's Fancy before Junko Pardner. Those two songs were not on the master trans fer I received, and there is no obvious discontinuity. That website also lists Sha ron after Motoring > I Like It Like That. Sharon also was not on the master transf er, but it may not have been recorded for broadcast. This recording Tape runs 83:58. If you drop d2 track 6, it'll run closer to 82:30. If you drop d2 track 3, it should come in under 80 minutes. An Evening Of Folk, Rhythm and Blues, Part 4: A Unique, Very Special Solo Performanc e by David Bromberg Live at NCC, 1988-03-24 Superb master AUD tape 24bit 48K masteri ng This show by David Bromberg bears some special mention, both for what made it onto t he tape, what didn't and why. Mr. Bromberg was the final act of the four artists that made the bill that night dur ing the NCC Folk Festival. Unfortunately for him, and very fortunately for us, after the first song he seems to think that someone has "messed with his stuff" (meaning his connections to the sound system). No one has of course, and he proceeds to blow it up while tampering with the jacks powered on, with pops, little explosions and al l. This is every bit as funny as it sounds. He then grabs a fiddle, literally jumps off the stage (he went high up in the air, t oo), and with the audience all around him, he starts dancing a jig in circles while playing the fiddle! Little did he know, but yours truly was wired for sound, and only about ten rows bac k on the center aisle. He also stopped only about five feet from me, which is why th e sound suddenly gets very open and clear. While this is going on, there are people behind him on the stage scurrying like rats to correct the problem. Cables were swapped (they were probably burned out), things were tweaked and adjusted, and all the while Mr. Mad Dave is having his own private hootenanny right in the middle of the audience! Security? Forget about it, they wer e right there dancing with him. It was hysterical. After things got sorted out, the energy level of the show continued. He put on a ste llar performance. After he was through with his basic setlist, through a pre-arrangement with Paula Lo ckheart (See Part 3 of this concert), her backup band came on stage to jam with Davi d. This is where the music died. It wasn't that they were bad musicians (although I guess that could be argued), it was that they only had limited skills with improvisa tion... uhhh... they couldn't. After a couple of minutes, I gave up with the tape de ck. It was, as we say in the North "Stinkola". It was an embarrassment, and a dishonor to Mr. Bromberg for that to be preserved. He stared and blinked at the piano player after his failed attempt at a solo, then shr ugged, and said "okayyyyy..." with a grin. So, the last two tracks are missing. But, they weren't missing by everybody. As we exited the hall, someone with a very p issed off expression on his face was disconnecting a Nagra (pro-reel recorder) from the line feed. I thought of asking for a trade, because I had caught the best part o f the show, which was away from any sort of microphone. Then the images of being stripped, searched, and my tape being confiscated overwhelm ed me, and I passed him by. It's a good thing, too. I met Mr. Bromberg's long-time m anager a couple of years ago. I let it pass during conversation that I taped this sh ow from the audience. His response? This is almost word for word correct: "I have no recollection of this show, or of those events. But, back then we would ha ve wrestled you to the ground if we knew you were recording. Now, we kind of look at it as saving a bit of history." So who WAS taping this show from the board? Do *you* have it? If so, please post it! Setlist Get Up And Go! A HUGE Thank You goes to fellow DIME member jjaywill for so generously sending me a CDR of this
pristine-sounding SOUNDBOARD show and for allowing me to upload it here for the rest of you.
As it turns out, jjaywill's boss--Jimmy Jacobs--is an old friend of Junior's...so Jimmy often s
its in on piano when Junior comes to town. In this particular show, Jimmy joins Junior on the
final track (the blues jam).
Here's some show notes that jjaywill shared with me:
"the ramshead in annapolis is a small dinner type theater, no dancing etc just a chance to get
up close and personal with some talented artist that make there way through. like junior says i
n the begining don't heckle cuss we outnumber you!!! I think there may have been 50 people th
ere that night, well annapolis is where junior grew up so it's always a great show.. hope every
body enjoys!!! jjay"
If you enjoy the show, please don't "grab-and-go"; instead, take a moment to post a comment on
the show's board...even if it's a simple "Thanks", which takes just a few seconds to type. A l
ittle common courtesy goes a long way and is really appreciated!

Jackson Browne - Everyman 2000 Tour Compilation
Notes:
This compilation was authored by a long lost friend, trader, taper and passionate Jackson Brown e fan Will Piaz. With the advent of BT we have lost touch. Will if your larking around the dim e and see this torrent i hope it's cool i share it here. I can't see where it has been shared h ere when doing a search, even in the dead torrent files. This tour finds a solo acoustic Jackson playing small art house venues with some very appreciat ive and quiet fans in attendance. I happened to catch the Shreveport, LA show of this tour at the famous strand theater http://www.thestrandtheatre.com/ and the vibe of this comp captures the vibe i felt that evening. Also featured in this collection are sit in performances with Jackson including; CS&N, Ronnie Raitt, C&N, Joan Beaz and J. Rafael on violin. I'm not sure if every song Jackson performed on the tour is represented in this collection as i have lost the comp notes Will sent me with our trade. The art he made is. The quality of these recordings range from excellent to very good. There are gaps between the t racks and the levels are very consistent. If your a fan of solo Jackson Browne your collection will be improved with this compilation. Please respect the artist, tapers and author of this compilation and do not sell it. Notes:
STEPHEN BRUTON LAGE VUURSCHE, THE FURS CONCERT "IN THE WOODS" FEBRUARY 25, 2006 THE NETHERLANDS Another great gig in the range... I think this is the best sounding recording I ever made. It's great to play with the toy department of the NPS. All Schoeps CMC 6 mic. amplifiers, two MK 21 capsules in front o f Stephens guitar, amazing... and the music? Yes it was a great set they did in the Furs. Very underrated singer-songwriter. His c.v. is unbelievable, will end this info-file with his BIO... Five songs were bro adcasted on may 4th 2006 for NPS 4FMRoots I'm sure you'll enjoy this ! Recorded by songhunter Setlist: 01 trip arouds the sun 02 it is what it is 03 yo yo 04 this old world 05 that moment when 06 she's the reason 07 that's love 08 against my will 01 i am the ghost 02 spirit world 03 daydrinking 04 teach me how to stay 05 waiting for a long time 06 hate to love 07 nobody gets hurt 08 too many memories 09 walk by faith 10 fading man 11 bigger wheel 12 soul satisfaction 13 drinking in the weekend Stephen Bruton: vocals, acoustic guitar Yoggie Musgrove: bass, vocals Brannen Temple: drums, percussion, vocals Bio ( from http://www.stephenbruton.com ): If a stranger asks Stephen Bruton what he does for a living, <93>I<92>m a guitar player<94> is the simple answer. But if Bruton were to ask the same question of himself, the response would be another question: <93>Whadda ya need?<94> That<92>s because Bruton is far more than just a guitar player par excellence. He is also a songwriter, singer, recording artist, record producer, actor, collaborator, and something of a raconteur and provocateur. One could dub him a renaissance man, but for Bruton it<92>s more just a matte r of doing what needs to be done the best it can be done. From The Five plays like a rocking night at a Texas roadhouse, albeit one where you come away with reflec tions on the state of the world and the hard-earned wisdom and lessons that life offers. <93>It<92>s not so much autobiographical as observations on where we are now,<94> explains Bruton. In between his opening thoughts on a higher power in the driving, bluesy rocker <93>Bigger Wheel<94> and the closing grace note of <93>In The Wind,<94> he looks at how we live today (<93>Walk By Faith<94> and <93>The Clock<94>), the burdens we carry (<93>Treasured Wounds<94> and <93>The Halo Effect<94>) and all that we<92>ve lost (<93> Every Once In A While,<94> <93>Fading Man<94> and <93>That Moment When<94>). And even though Bruton<92>s lyrical ruminations are as deep as his musical roots, From The Five also offers an uplifting boost with <93>This Old World<94> and a witty take on heartbreak with <93>Put Me Out Of Your Misery.

July 4, 1980 performance quality: B+ maybe better, I don't listen to JB much (except Jack Bruce and Jeff Beck) recording quality: A to A- (a few minor noises here and there in the broadcast but the reception and recording are clear) source: master FM broadcast tape (live national broadcast, not recorded) setlist: (some titles provided by etree guide that I could not positively identify) disc 1: 58:32 1: radio announcer introduction (this track is not clear sound, just this one, due to broadcast problem) 2: fins 3: Cuban crime of passion 4: trying to reason with hurricane season 5: growing older but not up 6: volcano 7: come Monday 8: changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes 9: margaritaville 10: dreamsicle 11: god's own drunk disc 2: 51:40 12: chancon pour les petit enfants 13: incommunicato 14; wonder why we ever go home 15: landfall > why don't we all get drunk 16: band introductions 17: cheeseburger in paradise 18: a pirate looks at 40 19: dixie diner 20: jam time 21: survive comments: I was more than a bit nervous that this upload attempt would either prove to be a total waste of time (bunch of released tracks in here somewhere?), or else I'd find out there are via a ban notice, but I checked out Buffett's list of discs and video releases on etree list, his 1st live album is from 1978 (various shows), and the second didn't come until 1990. As for videos, one of his listing's pages would not come up at all (so I don't know where/when it's from, with my luck with this stuff it will be this concert but I don't think it is) but other than that, I could easily spend a week looking through for B-sides and the like since Jimmy's discography is very big but the video one is not that big and neither is his live discography for a fellow with such a long and popular history. So I am at least as confident as I ever get uploading an FM of an artist this popular that this post won't turn up a bunch of released B-side/extended play or re-release tracks in it. which is not very confident, since there is no database that lists all officially released tracks, especially B-sides, extended plays and re-release bonus tracks. I have another term for those but it's not suitable to put in post. Especially now. Those are the ones that ban almost all of my banned posts, and if there is/are one or more of those in here it would mean a ban notice but also a probable repost with just a track or 2 removed. If there's more than that, there would not be any reposting. Although Buffett has reached a near Springsteen/Winwood level of popularity in recent years, and was already quite popular even in 1980, he was not nearly as popular yet, and this would have to be considered "vintage" Jimmy Buffett, now 28 years ago. This post has helped answer the question of why there's not much Buffett posted, since he is so popular, and not on the NAB list. Because it takes alot more looking to find released tracks to avoid of an artist with alot of releases, and Jimmy Buffett has alot more albums than I ever knew about before I decided to do this post. Almost the entire reason I'm posting this, is because so many people consider Buffett a staple in their musical heritage, and I have this one recording of him that I made off the FM radio one very hot July 4th afternoon. A couple of folks have asked me for it for years, so long now I don't remember who wanted it, but alot will, I suspect. There are quite a few folks who think a Buffett show is one of their favorite ways to fry their way through the summer heat. So I need to share this (if I can.) I have a friend who really likes Buffett alot but I have never known much at all about him, I did record this concert off the radio and I did get it all in good FM quality. Apparently every Buffett show has several songs they always play (or almost always), like Margaritaville and god's own drunk and cheesburger in paradise and volcano and changes in latitudes... all those and many more Coral Reefer Band faves are in here. We in America have close to 300 million ways to celebrate our independence and for 30 years plus, one of those ways has been to throw a Buffett disc in the player. I'd be more likely to throw on Return to Forever or maybe some Allman Brothers (even though they can't be posted) but for the sake of an American institution, before this becomes unpostable, since it is apparently not released as of posting time, I'd like to share with you all my one and only Buffett recording, since it is a good show (if you like Jimmy Buffett music, as many do, he sold out Fenway Park just a few years ago and at least part of that is officially released!), actually a national birthday broadcast party I've been holding for around Indy day. I don't offer much music for drinking (alcohol) by, but this guy definitely likes to get drunk and is not ashamed to admit it in front of 3 million people. Fortunately for his fans, he does know how to put on a concert that's fun for the whole of-drinking-age family, and his music is unoffensive enough to reach to some of the most and least "conservative" of folks. Jimmy Buffett has an appeal that reaches to many people, especially in the summertime, when the weather's warm, some people love this music, so for those of you, this still rather shiny 5 year old dime could use just a touch of "Buffing", from America's most popular "bufferman", so here you go, dime.

T-Bone Burnett
T-Bone Burnett - Cat's Cradle, Chapel Hill, NC, Apr. 9, 1984
Notes:
T-Bone Burnett Cat's Cradle Chapel Hill, NC April 9, 1984 Source: stereo cassette recorder (likely a Sony WM-R2 Walkman) Lineage: cassette copy from master > soundcard recording > Adobe Audition for EQ-ing & Edits > CD Wave > Flac This is a follow-up to the recent 9:30 Club show I posted a couple of weeks ago. Thi s was the show I've raved previously about seeing in 1984 which was the catalyst for me to drive up to Washington, DC to catch the show on May 30, 2006. This was T-Bone 's solo tour to promote "Proof Through the Night". I did not not record this show. It was recorded by my friend who I will refer to as FM, who since has established a name for himself as a rock'n'roll writer. It's a rat her haphazard recording in which FM does a fair amount of talking at times, but I wa s able to edit out most of the between song talking/whooping. I left in any talking ocurring during the actual songs though. The talking is not constant but quite loud in three or four instances. At one point FM was talking to me even. I been debating whether to post this show for this issue, but the show as so good, that sentiment wo n out. This show was absolutely one of the best shows I've ever witnessed. T-Bone, as my fr iend is overheard to say during the performance, had the crowd "in the palm of his h ands". The old Cat's Cradle used to have the stage laid out right beside the street entrance. T-Bone made this super cool entrance walking in off the street in a long t rench coat, like on the cover of "Proof...", guitar case in hand, singing acapella R oger Miller's "King of the Road". He then proceeeds to take out his guitar and begin the show. You can hear the tail end of this entrance where the recording begins. T- Bone had the crowd in rapt attention, frequently singing along as on "Trap Door", "M urder Weapon" and "Driving Wheel". The two part audience backing vocals on "Trap Doo r" is something I'll never forget. Truly a magical moment that's never been duplicat ed in my show going life. At one point in the show T-Bone notices an old piano off t o the side of the stage and uses it for "Madison Avenue". Most of this set was reque sts and there's a lot of great stage banter from T-Bone. The show is missing some so ng(s) between tape flips. I had a camera with me that night so I snapped some pictures. The coverart included contains two of these photos. Other than the talking issues the sound quality is really pretty good and given the rarity of this recording I think you'll be able to overlook these annoyances. Hope y ou enjoy it. Bus Boys
Bus Boys - Agora, Cleveland, OH
Notes:
Bus Boys The Agora Cleveland, Ohio This is the fourth and last of my Bus Boys shows to share. It was recorded right off the original BBC Rock Hour LP I bought at a record show many years ago. Commercials w ere taken out. It was transferred to a Tascam CDRW-700 standalone CD recroder. LP > C D > EAC > FLAC. It runs just over 54 minutes. Track Listing: 1. I Wanna Stop Guessing 2. KKK 3. Dr. Doctor 4. Minimum Wage 5. We Stand United 6. Anggie 7. Tell The Coach 8. There Goes The Neighborhood 9. Extraordinary Girl 10. Johnny Soul'd Out 11. Brown Sugar 12. Do It Again 13. Did You See Me 14. D Day 15. Monkey Mash Some personal notes on this recording. My friends and I had the good fortune to talk to Victor Johnson (still going strong with Sammy Hagar) for about an hour after a sho w in 1982. He was nice enough to stand out in the cold with four small town white boy s and talk to us. I did ask him a couple things about this show. Firstly, he said thi s wasn't their best performance and the band just wasn't on that night, but there was nothing they could about it after it was recorded. Secondly, he said the little stor y they tell about their meeting with the Rolling Stones may not have been exactly the way it happened. lol. He didn't say anything more than that. Still, this is the best recording out there I know of. It contains all of "Mimimum Wage Rock 'n Roll" except for "Respect" and they do 4 of what I believe to be unreleased originals. None of th e 4 appeared on "American Worker" (now available on CD). I am sure of the title of "M onkey Mash", but not about "I Wanna Stop Guessing", "Extraordinary Girl" & "Do It Aga in". I am also not sure about the date of this show altho it has to be from late '80 or early '81. I think most that know their music will agree "Minimum Wage Rock 'n Rol l" was their best release and this is a good document of that era. But I think a defi nitive live recording of them probably doesn't exist, unfortunately. Still, they were a great band in their heyday and I have enjoyed sharing these shows with the fans ou t there.

Jason was kind enough to unearth his master recording and put up MP3's up on the web a while back, but he was even MORE kind to send me a lossless copy after my incessant groveling... Here is the recently unearthed 10/31/84 show, and NEVER unearthed LOSSLESS version!. A splendid performance and set here. This long set (for the time) includes one of the earliest performances of 'Mark Says Alright' and a very early (and surprisingly cohe sive) Psychedelic Jam. The aborted 'Hey' seems to be because of some technical diffic ulties, but they play it again and get through it... This has become my favorite document from their first U.S. tour. The sound is great ( A-) and the band is having a ball...as was the crowd, it seems. Of course, if you'd like more info on this and every other known Butthole Surfers per formance and recording, please see here: http://www.jasonramke.com/bhs/main.php Enjoy! Nashville West Superb quality soundboard (better than some other copies circulating), and one of m y favourite ever Byrds shows. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Notes from the sleeve... Possibly the earliest recorded show to feature the Clarence White - Gene Parsons - John York lineup, and in fact, York couldn't have been in the Byrds more than a wee k or so. And, as Roy Josephson comments, there are some real highlights and some di sappointments. Clarence is absolutely incredible here, especially in the first part of the tape. His guitar is very out front. There appear to be 2 sets. Old Blue is great; Time Between excellent - McGuinn forgets what album it's on. Clarence adds a whole new dimension to Mr. Spaceman - possibly his best work at this show. Blue Su ede Shoes is a real hoot. Goin Back, Rock 'n' Roll Star, This Wheel, Back Pages and He Was a Friend are the same versions as on the FM broadcast tape. Drug Store Truc k Driving Man is a dasslc with a long Ralph Emery story from Roger, harmony from Cl arence, and Clarence doing the steel part on his stringbender. Stanley's Song is in complete but good, done during the pre-show sound check I'd say, although it's In t he middle of the tape. Pretty Boy Floyd is done with all guitars - it appears McGui nn says he left the banjo at the hotel. A strong version indeed. The show deteriorates toward the end of the tape in the second set. A second R & R Star is not as strong as the first. McGuinn just can't cut Hickory Wind, and York i s no better. And King Apathy and Bad Night at the Whiskey are just shadows of what' s on the album. There are feedback problems. York gets a little carried away on har mony. Clarence's guitar fades to the back of the mix on some numbers. There's feedb ack, bad distortlon, poor mix and cutting out. I don't hear Gene Parsons on anythin g but drums. There's lots of commentary from McGuinn. Some guy In the audience holl ers for 100 Years and McGuinn does an impromptu first verse. It really didn't sound like there were many people in the audience. Nashville West is a strong closer tho ugh. I think Clarence and Gene could play that in their sleep by then.
